Right way to deflate tire pressure?

Dumb question...

I read from this forum that when you pick up your new vehicle for the first time from a dealer, the tires are over inflated by as much as 10 psi.

My question is, is there a right way to deflate that 10 or so psi?
When I pumped air into my previous vehicle's tires, if one was over-inflated, I used my pressure meter to occlude the tire valve loosely so the air can come out, albeit slowly. I don't really mind the waiting to get the accurate result but was wondering if this method is ok for the vehicle.

Thanks!

Yeah;

The right way is to have the dealer check the pressure again and make sure it's what it's suppose to be. I just did that not long ago to both my X and my 5. It's a courtesy service that any reputable dealer will do.

Put any object on the valve center, depress...the air comes
out. Hard to believe the "question"...

Use your fingernails. That's what I do. Either that, or the round nub on the back side of the stem cap.

Make sure you are measuring air pressure when the tires are cold.

OK, thanks! I did not know how it works, but I guess I do now.

Quicksilver, I will try and ask the dealer to do that. But just in case...

Seriously though, laugh all you want, but I actually didn't know pressing a valve center could deflate the tire. It's good to know.
