X5 Running Boards

For those lucky owners of X5s with running boards, I got mine without tho I wanted them and now I'm thinking about installing them but for $1000, I'm wondering if they are worth it. I know they look nice but are they functional? Can someone share their experience without and with running boards?

Thanks!

It's functional for me since I use the roof rack to mount my cargo box, bikes, skis etc. Comes in handy to clean the car also. It's not that functional to get in and out of the vehicle, depending on the persons height. I heard people complaint about their pants getting dirty, getting in and out of the vehicle. Never an issue for me.

I got mine because of the looks and it only costs $300 when you order it with the vehicle. Will I pay $1000 to get one, I think I still will.

looks much better with the boards. agree with golfer4life, depending on height, it might be useful or get in the way. should try it at the dealer before spending the $1K.

personally not a fan of the running boards even for aesthetics.

Functional for me no but people comment on the looks. Not sure how hard a DYI project it would be if you looked at that route.

I've rushed out of mine and hit my pants. I'm 5'9". Agree with washing the car though. Unless you get the wheel step. With the sport package and the 19' rims, it 'sports' up the car more. I get compliments all the time.

its functional to clean the roof and stuff, don't use it to step in and it does rub my pants when i'm stepping out of the vehicle. When wet, they are angled down slightly away from the car so i sometimes slide right off and bang my shin right on the edge (hurts like hell, somewhat dangerous). Most importantly, they look fantastic.
hope that helps. its your call!

I'm pretty sure there's an "s" missing somewhere in that!
