i bought my x5 1 yr to the day today and was wonder if

the navagation disc is a 2008 version or 2007? i know i could possibly take out the disc but i be afraid if i screw it upand have to put it back in and then have to set it up.. it probably is easy but i figure i just ask.. the dealer emailed me back and said the 2009 isnt much different from 08 and that im better off waiting midyear if any changes

You can take it out and put it back. No worries. I had a 5 series with navigation and you do not have to set it up after removing it. Question for you: Why do you sign as "1st 2008 X5 3.0 in alpine white/saddle brown in USA"? Is it that important?

Got it. Thanks. I actually like the Saddle Brown a lot, but not a big fan of white on SUVs. Let's see what color I go with for the exterior. I know one thing: The interior will not be Tobacco. It is horrendous

Elvis, as MrX said, there are no problems with taking the disc out and putting it back in. It might be worthwhile to check on the revision level of the disc.

I was told that the new revisions of the navigation software are released in March or April of each year, and carry the next year's number. If anyone has more specific information, please post that here.

Your car should have been equipped with the 2008 DVD, which had been available for about seven months by then. But that is no guarantee that it was.

I bought my new X5 on January 29, 2008. The navigation DVD should have been the 2008 version, which would have been released about eight or nine months before my purchase, and BEFORE my car was built. But my car came with the 2007 DVD installed. I suppose it is fairly easy for someone at the dealer's to swap last year's disc in and keep the current DVD. They sell for $200 at the Dealers.

I guess that could even happen by accident. Either way, my car came with a DVD that was outdated at the time I purchased the car.

Incidentally, my sales rep told me at the time of the purchase that the next revision of the navigation DVD wold be provided at no cost under the warranty, since it would be released in just a few months. When I contacted the service department about that upgrade, they told me that no new DVD is provided under warranty.

Oh, well. That is what I get for listening to a salesman.

It was after that new DVD was declined by the service department that I checked the revision of the disc and learned that it was a 2007.

the dealer is doing you a favor by not recommending you upgrade, especially not at $200 (I actually got a mailer about it today). It really isn't a noticeable difference unless you travel a lot and random places need updating. 2-3 years down the road, maybe, definitely not after just a year. BTW, your revision is marked on the face of the dvd.
