When I got a new ipod (4G nano), the dealer installed cable would no longer charge the ipod (I could control the unit fine). This is due to the change Apple made to the newer ipods/iphone. I got the Scosche passport ($25), and this solved the problem.

Incorrect dude. My iPod 32gb touch is charging with the BMW iPod retrofit. Tech said he believes BMW changed the adapter.
1st or 2nd Generation touch?

Bought last spring so believe it's 1st gen.

Don't want to make the impression that I'm against aftermarket. Some of the best accessories are aftermarket. But, as complex and expensive to repair as iDrive is, I'd hate to install an aftermarket device, and as remote as it may be, have something fail, and BMW tell me it's on my dime because of the aftermarket, non-BMW approved part.

That's your reason, 2nd Gen touch is USB. Your 1st Generation touch is likely only trickle-charging with the BMW kit, same with 1st Gen iPhones.

I would recommend reading the Magnuson-Moss Warranty act before telling others not to go aftermarket.

Save your sales pitch. Not telling anyone not to go aftermarket. Read the post again.

I'm not here to butt heads, nor giving you any sales pitch - however you're giving bad info on a product you hardly know much about, based on what a tech "believes".

We've been integrating iPods into BMWs since 2003, even longer than BMW.

Someone move this guy to the chatroom or sales forum.

"We've been integrating iPods into BMWs since 2003, even longer than BMW".

or to BMW headquarters where I'm sure he can teach them how to integrate electronics into their vehicles.

What a helpful post. THANK YOU. Made my day. I just bought used 07 X5 with OEM iPod integration already installed via previous owner. My 5G Nano would not charge and I was worried I was SOL. I Googled the Scosche product, and yep, EXACTLY what I need. Only $15 at cyberguys.com, too. Thanks again.

Anyone have any experience with the ipod kit (updated part number 65-11-0-439-429) working with the iPhone's 3GS or 4G? I'm looking at it for my 07 e70, prewired for CD changer (without the changer) and sans the USB integration.

So this is only the retro fit and not the 6FL option. Just to be clear.
