Retrofit 6NF in 09 X5 that has 6FL

The Smartphone Integration (6nf) which you have available in the States is not an option available to us in Australia. The BMW production boff heads here I don't think even know what an iPhone is!

I have a new X5 coming (March 09 production) that will have the USB 6FL option and am wondering if the 6NF wiring loom and base plate can be retrofitted. At a option cost of $150 for the 6NF there could not be to much in it, the Audio & Nav units are the same here in Australia as they are in Europe, Canada and England and they have the 6NF option as well.

Anyone out there that may have checked this out as a retrofit?

6NF Option

Hi Watrob,

Seems we both tried to order this option without sucess. I cannot understand why BMW are so backward at introducing options that ought to be the same the world over I would think. They told my dealer they are waiting on Apple to upgrade their software to support 3G.. suggesting the overseas versions are not 3G... Sounded like nonsense to me.

So I'd like to know also if its retrofit.. anyone?

BTW: Mine is an April build because the dealer said that the model number increments by one from April. Given all people who think some kind of iDrive upgrade could come in March09 production it seemed worth the wait for 2 weeks. The code was FF0235 which moves to FF0236 in April. Could be wishful thinking but they don't normally change them he said...

Cheers
Bruce

I have a call into BMW head office, I am lead to believe that any March 09 ordered X5's will be the updated production model?

It is rumoured that the new production will get the buttons around the iDrive but the new iDrive itself will not come until Sept 09 productions changes!

Have a similar problem myself. Just bought last month an X5 and the dealer (who doesn't seem to know anything about it) got me to put in the AUX/USB instead of the 6NF. I had also ordered the bluetooth base. I wanted to get the cradle for the iPhone the 3G. So he got me one but the the one that works only the phone features - nom music. I then asked for the "corret" one that does both and only then he told me that it needs the 6NF and hesaid that it cannot be retrofitted AAAHHHH!!! Is it true?

Yup true I'm afraid. No retrofit kit exists.

Unbelievable! Does anyone know what the 6NF entails when they build it in? After all BMW supposedly has all the cabling already included in the car, so as to facilitate any further additions, or so I remember reading.
