Questions for rubber strip from BMW roof rack system

I just received the BMW roof rack system for E70 and it came with the rubber strip. The problem is that I cannot lock the roof rack if I have the rubber strip on (it goes under the lock cover). Why does it come with the rubber strip if I cannot lock the roof rack . Anyone has this problem? Do you just mount your roof box without using the rubber strip? I heard the rubber strip is designed for reducing wind noise...

Thanks.

TaMbALoLoNg is an unknown quantity at this point
The rubber strip is to be used when not using attachments. So you take off the rubber strips when actually attaching carriers. You have to trim/cut that rubber strip to the exact length of the crossover itself once the crossover bars are mounted. Take off rubber strip when mounting roof box.

I have never put the rubber strip on.. I don't leave the racks on the car for extended periods... and always do city driving though...

You should always use the rubber strips, otherwise you will get lots of high-pitch noise ! You can also cut them in pieces to cover whatever area remains after installing the roof rack.

Rubber strips improve wind noise reduction, they need to be placed only in the front cross bar.
I had the same issue, just cut it to the proper lenght.
