closing sunroof goes boom

I haven't slid it open in a while, I usually just pop it up for vent. Today I had it in the half-slid-open position and when I went to close it, the little raised net that's in the very front tried to retract back down but it didn't move back enough to clear the base and it was basically forced downward and made a huge banging noise when it did clear the base (by force). Does that netting and its frame usually move back or just straight down when closing? Something is out of position. I don't know how long it's been like this...

are you getting any kind of message on i drive bro? mine has been fubared for about six months. some kinda recall. i need to get it back in for repair. the dealer didn't have the disc to repair mine last time i was there.

mine says the anti-trap feature is disabled. quite reassuring.

call your SA before it gets worse. at least it will be on record.

Weasel will become famous soon enough
Probably just needs the points of contact cleaned and lubed... where the netting part hits the sunroof cassette etc.

Use a cloth and get the dirt of the sliding parts and then apply some lubricants - should be fine.

Cheers,

Well the netting doesn't appear to be coming all the way up in the first place (see pics). It's not fully extending the netting upward. There's a ton of grease on the tracks on both sides (which I suppose is normal) where the arms that lift this front bar / net is. So I'm not so sure it's just a matter of something not being lubricated. The arms do not budge at all. The netting is supposed to be fully extended upward, right?

This is as high as it goes right now, arms can't manually be moved any further in any direction:

Netting not all the way up:

As it's closing, it's hitting the base squarely, then only by its own force is it dropping down in front of it instead of being placed in front of it as normal.

rh71. I wouldn't mess with the sunroof. In case, something happens and the dealers decide to deny your claim. Do you not want to take it in cuz they scratched up your car last time?

Just posting in case it's a simple fix but doesn't look like it. I may just go to Rallye this time since it's closer and I probably won't need a loaner.

well I found the cause... from the top view (outside) on my passenger side, a plastic piece (the arm) has become displaced on the track. It is firmly attached on the driver side, and that is causing the problem of not being able to move the netting fully up and down. I can't snap it back into place at all, so back to the dealer I go.
