Pics without roof rails?

Since it's now an option, anyone have pictures without roof rails?

If I don't get it from the factory, can I add them later and at what cost?

Could I add the X5 M roof rails?

The BMW car configurator at BMW UK | Homepage will let you remove the roof rails under the options screen, and show the vehicle without the rails... but if you click to enlarge the smallish picture, it puts the roof rails back on (I guess the only high resolution screen they have has the roof rails on it).

Other BMW configurators might work beter, e.g., the German one.

Do a Google search for 2010 BMW X5's and then press the images link on the top and you'll get a ton of pics.

The UK one helped. I think I actually prefer it with rails. More functional and utilitarian looking.

I want that sleek look of no roof rails, but to change my standard rails is such a labor intensive job, and I have a weak stomach.....

While some people simply remove the rails and plug the holes, the proper way to do it is to replace the body colored strip on the roof without the holes! But of course you have to order it and get it painted first...

I just got my new M sport roof rails! They used to make them just primed, but now they only come in aluminium silver. They are not just painted silver, they really are aluminium!

This makes it very difficult to paint. While you could paint them, my body shop guy said it will peel off in a year or two (even with a special primer) especially if I ever snapped on a roof rack. Aluminium however is the best candidate for powder-coating! So I am getting them powder coated to match the high gloss shadowline trim. Should be ready this week. Dealer said a couple of hours labor to install...

I did my research to get the proper parts, strips, etc...painted, etc...but to remove the headliner (and all the preparatory work to get that done) and then remove rails, install new strips, re-install....it seemed to intensive to do on my own (and the dealer wants ridiculous labor rates...)

What / How are you doing it?
