Airbag warning stickers: Has anyone removed them?

Just picked up a "pre-owned" '08 4.8 yesterday and want to get rid of the ugly stickers on my black visors. I removed them from my e46 M3 just by peeling them off, but the visor material is more like a cloth on the M3. Has anyone had any luck removing them? They look like they are melted on to the visor. Thanks!

I wouldn't. It could void your warranty.

And of course result in the same penalty as when you pull the sticker off a new mattress.

PS haven't tried, but on others the solvent "goo be gone" has purportedly done the trick...no idea with the X5 though.

Try goo-gone and or alcohol; I used the latter on my X3 (which has plastic, not fibre sunvisors) and after scraping away at it, they came off.

I've taken the "death sticker" off three visors (one visor had to be replaced as the light continually flickered).

I've tried goo gone and other solutions. The BEST method by far is painfully picking it off using your fingernail. Anything else WILL leave a mark.

When you get a little edge, try pulling it up carefully and pulling off as much as you can. Then try getting another edge. Repeat over and over.

You can also use a hairdryer to cool the stickers and then to soften the adhesive.

Sticker removal photos

I removed the driver's side warning sticker today.

I used cotton balls and nail polish remover. Acetone is the chemical that helps dissolve the sticker and soften it so it gently pulls off the surface of the visor. It took me about 25 minutes to do the entire visor.

WARNING: The cotton ball should be wet but not 100% saturated because you need to press on the surface and let the Acetone soak into the label. Be sure your eyes aren't directly below the area you're working on because if the Acetone drips because the cotton ball is too wet, you don't want this stuff getting in your eyes. Also, as you wipe the surface of the label with the cotton ball, the edge of the label can 'flick' a tiny amount of the solvent. Put cloths down to protect any / all surfaces from coming into contact with this stuff. Laminated counter tops can peel from a cotton ball saturated with this stuff being set on it for a few minutes. I can't imagine what this stuff might do to the plastic trim on a car.

With light pressure, gently swipe the cotton ball right to left as if you're trying to peel back the edge of the label. Slowly, you'll see the edge start to lift and move. The label removes unlike a peel and stick label. It's more like a heat application with some sort of adhesive.

You can group a few cotton balls together and saturate just the one side of the cotton balls. Your hands shouldn't be soaked with this stuff but you need enough on the surface so that it will attack the label.

I've seen other posts where people tried goof off but that stuff doesn't seem potent enough to me. Be sure you don't go with a nail polish remover that has additives in it for anti-drying (they have oil in them). Just use the generic stuff from your local drug store.

If I feel up to it, I might attack the passenger side this evening. I got interrupted to make a run to the shopping mall.

Also, keep your car doors open so you get plenty of fresh air while you do this. Clean the surface when you're finished, with a soap and water solution, rinse and dry well. I'll take another photo tomorrow. The evidence of the label being removed doesn't show up nearly as much as the photo makes it look to be. In other words, it's barely noticeable.

Thanks for this!!

I've been wanting to remove them, but wasn't sure they were stickers. At first loom they appeared painted.

Good to know also that acetone won't ruin the visor itself...
