Difference in feel - 4.8i Sport vs. Non-Sport

I'm trying to purchase a 2008 E70 4.8i.

Has anyone test driven a sport (19" wheels, non-Y-spoke) and non-sport back to back? If so, what's the difference?

I don't have a dealer nearby with a sport model so I can do a test.

Chris

I drove two '07s not '08s. Yes, I could really tell the difference between the two. My test drive course is down a forest-like, windy, hilly road. The sport one didn't have nearly as much body roll. It was a lot easier to take it down that road really fast.

A friend and I just didn't get it because we didn't see adaptive drive on the sticker. When I asked about it, the CA said that in '07 adaptive drive was included in the sport package. Is it the same in '08?

We were driving the cars just to get an idea of a v8, which I'd never driven before. The '07 is the only E70 v8 they had with a sport package. After that experience, I'm really glad that I added adaptive drive to my 2011 order.

IMHO, buying X5 without adaptive drive is something I would never consider (I'd go for MDX instead and save tons of money!). Mine (08) came with adaptive drive as part of Sports Package, just like rh71's. The "sport" button had been turned on in my X5 since the day I got it, and was never ever turned off.

I once drove X5 without the adaptive drive, and it was totally different experience! The car was leaning in the corners and did not have that sense of stability and security during turns.

4.8 without sport is a waste of a good vehicle IMO.

so "adaptive drive" is what? the variable shock and sway tuning? i don't remember that buzz word from my purchase experience.

i've been looking at the BMWNA website lately.... building my own, and i believe they have screwed-up a perfectly good vehicle.

huh, whooda thunk?

BTW OP, the 19s are way more an everyday type wheel / tire combo. dump the RFTs and install a set of Toyo Proxes STIIs. i love to listen to them howl as i push them thru turns, 24/7 365.

Yeah, sounds like Sport is the way to go since I love to fling these things into the corners at hot speeds.

Thanks for you feedback.

Sounds like SPORT and adaptive drive are the way to go ..SPORT alone is not adaptive drive unless it was a pre 09 model where it was bundled up ... adaptive drive is expensive ... is it really worth it guys? no brainer with SPORT, just wondering about how much more adaptive drive delivers given most people seem pretty happy without it?!

Definitely go with the Sports package, in 07 and 08 models, the sports package includes adaptive drive. Switching the sports mode on make the already tight suspension even tighter, it feels great!
