a/c only blowing through defroster, somtimes through vents

Hello, Most of the time, the A/C in our 07 x5 3.0 is blowing from the defroster. Occasionally it will blow through the main vents on start up. It never changes after start up. We recently changed the battery and for a little while it corrected the problem, however it is occuring again.
When it is coming out of the defroster, the rear ac does not work either, although it works fine when air is blowing through the main vents.

Any thoughts? It sure is getting hot in Texas.
Thanks,

I had the same problem. The dealer diagnosed it and found some faulty wiring that needed to be replaced. 4hrs of labor and they fixed it.

Dealer diagnosed this as needing a new ihka controller and Fan Motor. Looking at just over $2,000. Seems ridiculous on such a nice car?? It doesn't help that it is also in the shop for a new thermostat and water pump.($1200)

80,000 miles on my 07 E70. I realize that is a lot although mostly highway miles...however, I've had to replace both air suspension bags/perhaps motors..(I do not remember exactly, but was earlier this year)

I suppose the lesson may be, always buy brand new or certified.
Otherwise, we LOVE the car!

I've only seen shashankmittal on this forum and one other person on the bimmerfest forum have this issue.

Any chance BMW would listen to my complaints?

I am beyond annoyed with the Air Conditioner. So, per the dealerships diagnosis, we had a local Foreign Repair shop replace the IHKA and Fan Motor. BTW, the fan motor did not seem or sound broken before we brought it to the Dealer. The ac worked for a couple of days, and then it switched back to the defroster and shortly thereafter, stopped cooling completely. Bringing it back to the repair shop who replaced it all today. I do not even know where to begin.
