Nevada vs Napa vs Merino leathers....

I am considering a 2011 X5 50..... Was planning on getting perf Napa leather.... But I now see that only perf Nevada leather is available..... Napa is only available in the non-perf form.

I currently have perf merino in my M5 and have had Napa in my M3 and 750.... I have limited exposure to the Nevada leather.... Primarily in loaner cars. I have found it to be a bit "tough" compared to the other leathers.

Anybody have any opinion or insight on this? I really want the perf seats but don't know if it's worth it over the napa comfort seats.

Thanks!

The nappa is a much softer leather. I really love this type of leather. The Nevada is indeed quite tough in comparison and when I first got my car found that they were actually quite uncomfortable. However after time the leather does give and is then more comfortable but still no where near the nappa. Great for longevity though. The merino is somewhere in between in terms of it's suppleness. The merino is harder wearing than the nappa.

So in terms of softness nappa>merino>Nevada
And the reverse is true on how hard wearing they are. The nappa needs to be well looked after.

After getting Napa comfort seats, I'll never go back to Nevada. Sorry, can't comment on the Merino.

What would you guys pick?
Nevada Perf Comfort Active Seats or Nappa Comfort Seats?

I cant believe that they dont offer the Nappa in the perforated form on the X5!!!!

Nappa Perf would likely tear more easily.

Have Nappa Perf in a Mercedes S550. Would not get it again. Feels nice, but is not durable. Have a few rips already. Furthermore, the Mercedes execution is poor. Not sure why, but it's kinda loose wrapped around the chair, so after sitting in it, it leaves imprints (think Tempur-pedic bed). It eventually gets its shape back.

I have the Nevada Perf. It's definitely more durable than the Nappa Perf. Feels fine. I'd use the word "rugged" to describe it. But it looks horrible with stuff getting stuck in between the holes. Lots of white stuff here and there from passengers. I just found chocolate stuck there yesterday. Still trying to figure out how to clean it.

The Nappa in the X5 is much nicer. Definitely more durable. And silky smooth! If I had to do it again. This would be my #1 choice. I intially thought it was too "luxurious" for a SUV/SAV. But in retrospect, I was wrong.

I have Merino leather (non perf). It is a bit more softer as nevada. I love it. BMW states the colour of the leather is through and through. So if you get a scratch the colour will still be the same.

I'm not sure if this is 100% correct, I have a small scratch on the driver seat and it is grey underneath.

We have Nappa leather in both our M6 and 750i. The 750i has perforated (cooled/ventilated seats). The leather is butter soft, and seems durable. Also, it is nice having the Nappa on the center console and doors. It looks and feels very rich and luxurious! I've had Nappa leather in many BMWs and Mercedes models, and have never had a tear, ripple or defect. I am somewhat gentle on car though, but my 4 year old son is not...and the leathers in all our cars still look good!

I agree on the above. I've never been terribly impressed with the Nevada leather in the X5 BUT I'd rather have ventilated comfort seats. It depends on where you live but as I reside in CA there are plenty of times that the ventilation feature would come in handy. I believe it would be enough to outweigh the rougher feel. If you are keeping this car long-term (vs a 4-year lease etc) then I would also give a nod to the most durable leather
