Whistle Steering Vipration Upon Turning the Steering (only when stopped)

Hello Everybody,

I am having a strange problem in my E70 (4.8 2007 83000 KM), I noticed vibration when I turn the steering wheel towards the end of the two sides, the car start to shake while reaching the end. This only noticeable during idle (while the car is stopped). Everything else is working in order.

Can someone tell me what could be the problem.

Many Thanks

No, the vibration happens while moving the steering . It is not normal, it is like The front wheels are causing this (but only when idle). Any more thoughts ?

Many thanks to all

Yes from what I know being at a standstill and holding your steering hard on full lock can cause vibration and also cause stress on the rack and pump. I think it is best to verify with your dealer.

Quick Update ...

I checked the issue with the dealer and the intitial diagnosis that it is the Steering assemply, they said this is electrical and would cost around (only parts) $4,375 !!!

I don't believe that I have to change the whole thing for minor vibration !!!

just out of curiosity but do you have the lane departure feature?

I'm not sure why it'd be that expensive in parts...

Wait, you are in kuwait where people tend to know nothing about cars and BMW dealers are corrupt....

Did you check you power steering fluid level????

Drive it until if finally fails, THEN fix it.

What is the "lane departure feature" I don't think I have it. As for being in Kuwait, this is the first time I try the dealer and it looks that he gave me the worst scenario!!!

The problem that it only vibrates when turning left while stopped. Nothing is there when the car is in motion. !!!

I had a similar issue on my 2007. I had them replace and tighten the steering wheel (it's at the dealer now) so I'll let you know if it's fixed. Could it be tied to the suspension? Perhaps your feeling vibration from something in the front end?
