2010X5d is on a distinguished road
Dec 12, 2010 - 1 year of owning X5d - My experience and views.

This is my first BMW ( I was coming from 2007 MDX).
Took the delivery of my X5d on Dec 12, 2009.
Exactly after one year of owning X5 Diesel, below are my experiences and views.

1. Have 16,476 miles as of now in 11 months (1 month I was on vacation out of country)
2. I am averaging 23.5 (70% Hwy and 30 % interior roads)
3. I had DEF warning and the fluid filled @ 2500 and again @ 15 K miles, oil change was done @ 11 K miles.
4. I had front left tire puncture @ 5 K miles, I drove for around 100 miles @ 50 MPH speed. It was fixed without an issue and running fine till now.
5. I love the way it drives and the MPG.
6. Only issue that bothered me was the squeak/rattle from the back, I had been to the dealer 6 times. Every time they fix, the sounds come back after 3-4 weeks.

I had a very good experience at the time of sales.
My service people are very friendly and were willing to answer my questions and concerns.
On the whole 100 % satisfied with the X5d.

If I need to buy it again, DEFINETLY will

That's SO good to hear, Thanks for posting.

On Tuesday, I will of had my 2011 35d one week This is my 9th new BMW since 2004, and besides from my 2010 750....so far my favourite (although the 2004 X5 4.8is and 2003 Z8 Alpina are very dear to my heart & psyche!!

Even though the 35d does not used BMWs highly praised 8 Speed transmission, the 6 speed in my 35d is smooth, responsive and always is the "right" gear. The iDrive is great and the sound system is really good.

Bad: As in my 2007 & 2008 E70s...the A/C is kind of weak & the cabin is either too warm or too cold. Also, the driver side vents seems very, very weak compared to the center vents! I really dislike having to fidget around with the Auto setting to Soft, Medium and Intensive. Auto should just be Auto. Also, the extra climate settings in the iDrive (making the climate more red or blue is silly and should not be there). The HVAC in my 2010 750 is the best of any car I have ever been in. I wish BMW would have used the 7 Series HAVC for the X5.

MPG is awesome, especially considering my car is so new & has now only about 100 miles on the engine. I am getting in the city, with lots of holiday mall traffic, about 18 mpg!

Diesel clatter is very low, but I love the sound of a Diesel engine...so I'd be happy if it was more. I read a big comparison online with the X5, ML and Q7 Diesel, and they said the X5 has the most Diesel engine clatter noise, where it was almost impossible to tell the ML or Q7 had a Diesel engine. Glad I have the X5, since the Diesel clatter is music to my ears (I'm a big, freaky Diesel engine lover

The torque in the 35d is AWESOME!! This car pushes and pulls like a freight train. I never think even about "only" having 265hp! My 35d is strong and very fast.

Brakes are of course, BMW perfect. But, brake dust is insane!! I guess though, I am used the the 7 Series with Regenerative Braking...wheels stay clean for almost 2 weeks!

Goodies that I am loving are the Head Up Display, Comfort Access, 214 20" Y spoke wheels, Sport Package, Mutli Contour seats, Park Distance, cameras on the side, front and rear and I love having Sirius!!

My only big dissapointment are the use of lightbulbs everywhere. Even the 3 Series, which is an older design than the E70, got new & updated LED rear and front turn signals and LED Angel/Corona Rings. I would not be as bad, if the E70 used orange rear blinkers, like the 1999-2005 X5, but our E70 uses a cheap, ghetto, 1970's Impala style single red, rear blinker. Very hard to see, and very un-German!!

I love reading your reviews of the 35d. I am 7 days away from PCD and I absolutely can not wait! I got the exact 35d as you with the exception of the black vent seats for me. Can not wait to post my experiences!
