Has anyone done this (apply film over entire vehicle)?

Looks like they are putting a "film" on the car instead of painting it. I know of the clear film thing to help prevent dings, but I've never seen this done Stateside.

i remember someone doing just front and rear bumpers and it cost close to 2k.

doing the entire car might cost 3-4 times that!

In Germany they call it car wrapping and you have to spend 1000 to 2000 euro depending from the colour.

Interesting stuff. MUCH cheaper than the $6K - $12K range to repaint my car.

No real understanding on how it holds up agains bugs, sun damage, pollutants that are in the road (spills), etc.

^^ If you've seen the 'clear bra' films that are applied to the front of cars, the 'wrap film' is the same thing.

It is temporary.

It may last 5 years, or more, on a garage queen... or a year for a driven car. You can clean it, wax it, etc. But once it starts to nick up, you'll be re-wrapping.

a bunch of the guys on e92post have had it done to a 3 series - it is expensive and lasts maybe 5 years - longtran on e92post did his X5, flat black first, then took that off and did flat clear over his original shade of gray.

There is a pick of it in flat black here View topic - Thinking of wrapping my car in black vinyl...thoughts? | THE Mercedes-Benz & AMG Forum for and by the Enthusiasts | MyMBonline.com

Can't find a pick of the newer wrap he did, but done right it looks pretty killer, it is cheaper than paint and reversible and makes flat colors much easier to do - not to mention you can redo a section if something happens to it.
