it was probably going to a dealer locally...our roads have been really bad! It looks like it was the only one on the carrier, so probably someone in sc.

Read all the way down to the section once a car is being shipped here in the US:

How-To: Follow a new BMW from Order, to Shipping and to Delivery

And when I bought my '08 4.8 from Beverly Hills BMW they said they will only ship enclosed long haul due to risk (pretty obvious). When mine got here to Dallas from Los Angeles the dealer already had 3 brand new BMWs inside---2 going to Houston dealers (one being an X5M) and the other to Louisiana.

Wait. That is your definitive reference on BMWs exclusive use of enclosed carriers?

We already know that BMW changed carriers a year or so ago, and BMT is not the carrier any more.

But we are off track...wonder who's X5 is lying there?

PMTG and its subsidiary Bavarian Motor Transport moves new BMWs in US and they are enclosed. Maybe your friend deals with dealers or CPOs. Don't think BMW deals with someone who owns 3 trucks. No offense.

That orig Yahoo article said that the pic of the tossed E70 was taken in Indiana, fwiw.

As for open vs closed car hauling, I shot this pic, (and posted it here on the Board), last summer. We were on I-77 north, near the NC/VA border; there were 3 trailers full of E70s...they did not appear to be making 'local/short haul' deliveries, as we were ~180 miles north of S'burg, SC.

Back to the news...

I guess I missed that. Cost cutting takes its strike.....ouch...an X5M... I had seen these open BMW transporters in Europe, not in US. Any pics from side of truck.....Who is the transporter?

Sorry, LM...I took a batch of quickes, with my lil'pocket Canon S50, as we zoomed by the strung out convoy. I deleted all the pics from my hard drive later, except that one.

And, short of 'hypnosis/memory reload', I don't recall the name(s) of those 3 carrier trucks. I've seen loads of 'uncovered' Xs, et al, many times, on our trips back and forth from NC to NJ/NY, fwiw.
