Here is how one ships our monster moto tires at a reasonable price...
I sold my X5 runflats. Problem was, I was looking at huge shipping fees to send them from Kentucky to California. These factory tires on our Sport e70s are absolutely monsters. The rear tires are 13 inches wide and 28 inches in diameter and 42.5 pounds! Here is what I was facing. 1. If one thought about putting these bad boys in boxes, a 30 inch cubed box exceeds the threshold of shipping sanity and greatly magnifies cost of shipping. UPS and Fedex cost was in excess of $350 to California from Kentucky! This does not include the cost of the boxes! 2. I looked at sending the tires without boxes, by taping round card board cutouts on the outside of the tires and taping two tires together. Cost? UPS = $240 and Fedex = $300 3. What I did. Try Greyhound PackageXpress I packaged the tires with no boxes, and used cardboard cutouts, two tires taped together One can ship just about anything in the bellies of Greyhound buses! They have a dedicated division of their company called Greyhound PackageXpress. You can send a massively big box, up to 100 pounds all the way across the country for $65! This also includes $1,000 insurance and tracking capability. You go online, select your origin bus station and destination bus station, purchase the shipping online. They email you your package label, you bring your box to the station and that's it!

Yeah, that is good info for future shipping.
I ran into a similar problem when trying to ship a set of tires from Atlanta to Massachusetts. Mine were off an 02 4.4 sport package. Rears were nearly 12 inches wide with a 28 inch diameter and weighed about 38 pounds. I ended up shipping them FedEx for about $55 total for all 4 tires. Each tire was shipped individually with a label on the treads and tape wraped around the tire to make sure it didn't fall off.

Hey, that's not possible. Four tires for a total price of $55? That must have been in 1970!

Sorry. Greyhound would have been much more cost effective.

Well, that's very reasonable, actually. Reasonable prices are gone now, for whatever reason....

Yeah, it wasn't bad. I had to dig up the receipt to be sure this time. Still, I wish you posted this about 6 months ago.

my company ship a lot everyday, we use UPS ground and UPS freight to ship. when i sold my tires and rim on ebay, i use my company UPS account to ship them out. I ship them on a pallet most of the time, I did a cost est from KT to CA with UPS freight is about $230. if you paying $240 which is not bad at all! if delivery address is residential, it will cost about 10 - 15% more. shipping cost also base on distances, if i ship NY to tri-state area the cost is less than $100 for 4 tires

So wait, my 4.8i Sport has a staggered setup from the factory? If not, why are you implying that fronts are less than rears? If they aren't staggered, then they're the same tire all around, correct?
