Shipping quotes I received from the bay area to the Oregon border were $800 and not worth the savings you get in California.
To be accurate, part of this is true: A California dealer must collect CA tax if you drive off the lot. (But not a private party sale). If they truck it out of CA, they should not collect tax.

(If you can get a trucking company to 'truck' it around the block to you, all the better. Just someone with a bill of lading and a truck. Wink)

But Washington SHOULD give you 'credit' for the CA tax you pay. You will not get a refund if CA is higher, but you should not get double dipped.

Typically not worth it with new commodity items.

Dealer just friendly sorry me by tax rate in Seattle: it's 9.8%.
Ok, I have to remind myself we don't have state tax.

This maybe so but when I was last checking about a year ago when I bought my M I checked with the Washington state DMV and they stated they would not credit California sales tax. Not sure if they closed the loophole but makes sense from the Washington state perspective.
