Don't know if what/if you decided on anything, but I'd recommend going with the 35i Premium. I maintain a consistent 21.7 combined MPG and love this car!
Don't get me wrong here, I'm a HUGE Diesel fan. My toy for hauling our 30' boat is a 2011 Ford F250 6.7L Diesel. 400HP/800LBFT torque! I kid you not when I say this 8000# truck takes off like a rocket ship with 800lbft of torque at 1600RPM. Mileage with the Diesel in the truck has been averaging 18+ CITY! How Ford pulled this off is beyond me, but they have a winner here! With that said, I'm sure the 35d is a blast to drive as well, but if they are jerking you around on price like that, see what you can do on a 35i. You won't be disappointed.

I disagree with BMW007. Get the X5 35d.
I own both a 2011 F350 6.7 PSD King Ranch and a 2011 X5 35d. You can't have too much of a good thing and the X5 35d has far better linear accleration w/o any of the noisy reving drama of the gasser version. And while my truck puts out 800 ft/lbs of stump pulling power, the X5 6 speed is my rocket ride of choice when not towing my heavier toys. BTW, the X5 35d tows my 5500 boat and trailer with no drama as well. Go 35d! You will not regret it. |

And to the op's orginal topic... I found the Puget Sound dealers unwilling to work with me on price or inventory during early December. I went down to Rassmussen BMW in Portland and ended up with the best combnation deal on 2011 X5 35d and a 2011 535i xdrive. Very satisfying experience working with Brad Homa.

Got call from dealer today about 2012 d
Told me that they will not be out until October. Said that there was an addendum to the bulletin that came out on 2/24 (which said April).
I have been going back and forth about a 2011 Cayenne (6 cyl) vs. the 35d and the ability to get the 'newer' 2012 in the X5 was pushing me further in the X5 direction...now I am back on the fence! |

Buying a car out of washington state
I'm going to chime in here because I live in the Seattle area and just bought a 2011 X5 out of CA in December (Local dealers never have what I want, and wanted me to wait 3 months to get it)
You will likely pay CA sales tax. I did. It's the easiest thing for the dealer to do. When you go to license it in WA, you take your sales invoice in, they record the sales tax you paid, and if it is different than where you live in WA, they will either charge you the remainder, or credit you the difference. In my case, they credited me a few hundred. (when I bought a Z4 back in 2004 out of AZ, it was exactly the same scenario) The only sticky bit with buying out of CA, is that the CA DMV can be really slow in processing the title. In my case, they weren't. When the car was dropped off in WA, I got a 60 day temporary plate. Once BMW financial got a copy of the title, I called and they e-mailed me a copy and I'll be going in this weekend to get permanent plates. If the CA DMV took too long, my 60 temp would expire and I might have to park the car but that didn't happen. It only took the CA DMV a couple of weeks for processing. Hope that helps. let me know if you have more questions about buying out of state. And stay the hell away from Crevier. They suck. As for pricing, the cheapest I could find anywhere in the western region was $1500 over invoice in SoCal, and you'll spend quite a bit to ship it. I would have jumped on $1700 locally if they had what I wanted. |

To ship it in an enclosed trailer from San Francisco it was about $1000-$1100. From the L.A. area it was about $1300-$1400. An open trailer was about $700 from S.F. and about $800-$900 from L.A.
