You need to SPEAK with someone who can make a decision- the New Car Sales Manager, who can- within a few sentences- understand your value to his bottom line and make a decision within the conversation. Not the sales puke who took your order. Heck, you might even pitch (depending on how it goes) to him "I am not looking for free, but 100 seems reasonable"... given the part dept cost, he should be able to make it happen |

bigx5er:
I just want to say that your Title is right up there in Classic, Rack It! Territory, imo! "Cargo cover and BMWUSA customer elimination management" I realize every dlr store is a biz moving lots of money through it, with smaller margins than one might expect, (the service dept aside), but with your stated history, the freakin Sales Mgr should have copped you one out of Parts, in a NY minute. GL, mD

^^ good luck.
You should know that in "BMW Customer No Service" speak, this means the idiots at BMW will send an email to the dealer saying "this guy is bothering us, please take care of it". Good luck. |

Hey bigx5er - I have 2 or 3 in my basement from various e70's all should be like new since I always take them out after delivery and forget to reinstall them when I trade the car back to the dealer (I think all tan), if you want one for free, contact me to work out shipping (I'm near Des Moines).

Official update from BMWUSA -- well actually two. Remember, I've purchased 13 new BMWs...
BMWUSA called and said they had my cargo cover worked out. The dealer cost was $309 and the dealer agreed to eat $209, bringing my cost to $100. This will shock many of you, I called BMWUSA and told them no deal, I didn't feel this was on my dealer and felt BMW needed to make it right. BMWUSA calls be back. Now they have a different story. They say the actual cost was $500 and BMW marketing chipped in $300 but required the dealer to pay $100 for "customer retention". Amazing (and yes I have the voice mail from the first call). (Note $500 is not the BMW cost, as pointed out on this thread, you can purchase it for $390 plus a 0% BMWCCA discount). I said no again, described the cars I purchased, the loss BMW will take if I switch brands. BMWUSA guy said, sorry, that's policy and he couldn't do anything about it. I asked if we was sure he was willing to give up $60K in sales a year over $100, he said yes, nothing could be done. I know, I'm standing on principal and many of you may tell me to quit sweating the small stuff. My dealer (BMW Minnetonka) gave me a great deal on the X5 and the sales guy is solid. BMWs lack of loyalty to a pretty big customer is surprising. Again, not life or death. Just disappointed in BMW over a dumb issue. I'll contact the previous poster here and try to work a deal out with him instead. |

Big thanks to RING007 for setting me up with a cargo cover at a great price. Fast shipping and nice guy!
Here is what I learned about this. BMW did know they had an issue when they made the cargo cover an option for a few months. So -- for a limited time they offered the covers to dealers for $99 and then switched it back to a mandatory option. But -- the dealers could not return them (the $99 covers) so the dealers didn't want to stock them. That deal is since gone. Of course BMWNA did not admit this to me and tried to convince me the cover was worth $500. The cost now is actually $309, but retails at $490. |

Glad you like it Bigx5er. Us frequent buyers need to stick together against the BMW machine and its bureaucratic lunacy. Thanks again for the dinner. My wife and I tried a new Thai place that was excellent.
My wife has an '11 coming in to replacer her '10 in late May. If it has a cargo cover, I'll have another extra if anyone else is looking for one. I'll keep you guys posted.
