Does anyone wish there X5 was a little bigger?

I often do. I have a 6 month old baby and sometimes I feel like a little more space would be nice. I have only had it for 5 months and love it other than this issue. None of the other Suvs I looked at handeled like the x5. They were all way to soft. I wish they made a x7! Im just talking out loud. Thanks!

Well, until the financial crisis hit the world, an X7 was on the design board. Even though the X5 is available with a 3rd row (albeit silly and mildly useless), the X5 is to me, more a compact SUV. And yeah, besides from a Cayenne Turbo...nothing handles as well as an X5 for an SUV/SAV!

My vote is still out. Moving over from an LR3, I'm sure there will be times when I miss the ability to put my golf clubs in the back having them lay wheel to wheel and not touch either side as I start packing up the family for a long weekend in WI. Time will tell. I guess I'll learn to pack smarter.

I wish it had more cargo space inside, but I don't want it larger externally. I have no idea how BMW could design the space so inefficient, but the X5 has less cargo space than my 2005 Ford Focus Wagon.

The E70 musta shrunk, while it gained ~500 lbs: we have had 4 sets of clubs, laid horizontal, shoes, and 'stuff' in the back, several times, plus 4 of us Geezers in our '01 E53.
Same goes for the CEO's '10 Hyundai Tuck.

When we traded our E53 X5 the E70 was out, and to us it was already too big and too heavy. We went to an X3. It is now our 'big' car. Carries everything we need.

When our kids were in car seats many years ago we had a Volvo wagon, a 245. It carried everything we needed then.

I think that bigger and heavier BMWs don't do anything to help the brand.

Perhaps not, but does allow the people who go on long camping trips to buy BMWs...

I suppose. Maybe I am not a good example. I went on a three week camping trip in a Datsun 1200, with a tent. I went on a three week camping trip with two kids, in the Volvo wagon, pulling a large Coleman tent trailer through the Rockies. Moved along by all of 114 hp.

I just wonder why having one child in a car seat calls for something larger than a 3 series, and why having two children often seems to require a third row. Maybe it is the SUV-sized strollers.

That was when cars had optional trailer hitches and manufacturers didn't make you get a truck or SUV in order to tow. IIRC VW now does not recommend towing a trailer of any size by its cars other than the tiguan and touareg.

It was also a different time when most other cars didn't have 250+hp and were about to run you over if you have a less powerful engine than them.

Also, you would be hard pressed to find a new vehicle that has the greenhouse space of that volvo wagon other than a giant SUV.

I remember those days: we carted our daughter in a '62 Volkswagen, and she and our son, in our '68 Beetle. I must not have been paying attention to the
lack of space available.
