New Dinan Stage 1 on my X5 5.0i!!
If you've had this done on your 5.0i, what did you notice in the first couple weeks, and how would you compare the first day with how it was after a couple weeks?

I can't believe all this re-adjustment thing. I had a couple of turbo charged cars flashed and always felt the difference immediately, as you get much more torque from lower RPMs.
I don't think that anything will change after a few weeks, as the parameters under which the engine operates get tweaked and are set. They are not variables that change and adjust over time. |

Yeah I'm not sure what to make of that myself. Dinan doesn't appear to mention anything about it, and I would expect that just about anything that would need to adjust, would only adjust in fractions of a percent since they've essentially reprogrammed everything from fuel/air mixtures and timing to boost pressure in what amounts to a very detailed 3D map of those elements.
I had a little experience with setting up a custom fuel injection system on a harley I owned a few years back, and the software for programming that was pretty sophisticated in terms of the parameters configurable over the rev range. This is obviously a more sophisticated system with more variables, and the amount of testing required to get it right for the initial flash would be extensive. I would expect though that certain things would adjust however, such as the response to the current fuel, air mixture due to oxygen density and temperatures, ignition timing as a result of the previous two, etc. These would be a normal operational mode for the engine though regardless of whether you had the Dinan software or not.

The reference to things adjusting over time isn't to do with your flash. You will see those benefits immediately.
It has to do with systems like adaptive throttles, adaptive transmissions, etc, which need time to adjust to your driving styles when the vehicle is new, and again whenever the vehicle software is updated. So, it will feel different over time, just the same as when you bought it and it went through that learning. And since the most obvious effect of the tune is in how it feels to you, it was worth pointing out IMO.

Please keep us updated on what you think of it. I am seriously considering the Dinan flash for my 50i.

So I was out today and one thing I noticed was when in DS mode and running higher RPMs, it pulls quite a bit harder. You know when you hammer the throttle and it goes through 3rd, 4th, 5th, and it seems to pull hard in each gear? As impressive as that is, this is the next level of that. It really wants to go.
What I was really hoping for was more low end torque than what it had. That seems more or less unchanged, so I'll be looking forward to adding the stage 2 updgrade when it comes out.

The torque increase Dinan advertises is at 2500 rpm. Sounds like what you are feeling, with less of a difference at low rpm. The Stage 2 is reportedly tuned for better low end. It is available now for the 750, so may be out for the X5 soon.
