2012 X5 xDrive50i, a few questions

I finally placed an order for 2012 X5 xDrive50i – M package with style 333M 20” wheels, Black Sapphire Metallic, Black Perforated Nevada Leather (Active seat package), Brushed Aluminum Trim plus lots of nice stuff. I spent quite a long time choosing between two different looks – Sports Package with style 336 20” wheels and running boards vs. M package with style 333M 20” wheels. I just wanted to get a different look this time. I’m currently driving 4.8i with the running boards, sports package and style 214 20” wheels. I’m well aware of the problems that come with the painted flares and think that BMW went too far trying to achieve a nice appearance while sacrificing the practicality of the SUV on X5 M and X5 with M package. Even Cayenne Turbo has the plastic non-painted fender flares and rocker panels and those guys always paying attention to the details.

I just would to ask a few questions:

I noticed that some of the LCI X5s come with the blue “angel” lights. Is there such OEM option/package or its all aftermarket options?

I also noticed that some vehicles (particularly on Canadian market) have an option - Audiophile Sound Package that comes with the speakers with aluminum frames vs. plastic frames that match the color of the leather interior. I think it’s a nice “touch”, especially for my color combination. I doubt that I can get it in the US.

It appears that BMW used to use more expensive tires in the past, my 2008 X5 with the Sports Package and style 214 20” wheels came equipped with SP Sport Maxx DSST RunOnFlat tires, which I kind of liked, except the price and the range (won’t last more than 20-25K miles). These days I do see lots of vehicles with 20” wheels that come equipped with less expensive Bridgestone Dueler H/P Sport RFT.

I would greatly appreciate any comments.

I think BMW knows the Dunlops are super expensive and also don't last as long as the Duelers (well not much longer but still better tread life). So, they seem to have moved to the Bridgestones for the most part.

Yeah the sound package is a little different in the canadian cars as they term it the individual series that has the 752 'enhanced premium sound'. Im attempting to add this to my x5d order when my associate is back from holidays. I hope they can do it as it is scheduled for product the first week of the new year.

Thanks for the reply. I didn't event know that 752 nor Individual program are even available for X5 in the US. None of the dealers I talked to in Tri-State area mentioned it, and it's not available on Configurator in the US (or whatever "Build Your Own" equivalent).

I wish I can add it to my build

Thanks for the reply. I think that you're right and suspect that my vehicle will show up with the Bridgestones.

U can add it to ur build, they fax into bmwusa a special request form.

There are actually a bunch of options that are not listed on bmwconfig or bmwusa website.

Im awaiting confirmation if it could be added in time, it may have been to late as i have an early january (week 1, 2012) production date.

cheers,

Don't know about the 5.0, but I just took delivery of my 35 Sport yesterday and it has the Dunlops.

I can't say I've seen all M-Sports obviously but every M-Sport I've seen on online inventories, etc have had the Bridgestones as well as the X5M. It seems the only time the Dunlops are used are with the 214 style wheels.

You will have to let me know how the Enhanced Premium Sound is. I'm pretty happy with the Premium Sound in my 2007. It's FAR better then my 2005's. FAR FAR FAR better. I'm thinking of doing BMW Individual on my next X5. I love that Eucalyptus wood and I want to order the wood ringed steering wheel

What are these other options? And how do i find them? I'd like to make sure I know all options available before dropping $75k on my new X5 50i.

Thanks,

T
