Keyless entry and ambient light detector questions
I have two questions related to my 2012 X5 3.0d : 1. I noticed when I wash the car and direct the spray to the door handles that the keyless entry goes through a lock/unlock cycle and continues to do this. Is there a way of stopping it other than not spraying the handles directly? 2. The headlight ambient light sensor that is attached to the windhshield seems finicky. The other day I went on a long ride starting at about noon and the sensor was working correctly as i entered and exited tunnels. Towards the evening the headlight kept on even when facing direct sunlight which was about to set on the horizon (just when it gives out a more orangeish color). I was wondering if the sensor uses other variables such as time of day to make the adjustments or if this is some sort of bug on mine? TIA

mine does this too. you need to keep the key further away (leave it in the house).

Anyone on the light sensor issue?

It is not a bug on yours in particular, it is a poor design on the part of BMW. It often puts the headlights on at inappropriate times. |

The light sensor is sensitive to low sun angles and therefore tends to be very conservative and switch on the headlights quite early this time of year.
It wasn't always this way...........don't know why it's so sensitive now. What you describe is normal operation. |

I might add that the Owner's Manual says:
"A blue sky with the sun low on the horizon can cause the lights to be switched on." which oddly seems to be correct. If it is overcast, I do not see the same early turning on of the lights. |

keep the car keys inside the vehicle is another option.

Interesting! I never actually noticed this sentence in the owner's manual. I guess that says it all.

Sorry for being a noob but wouldn't I risk getting locked out of the car?
