New 09 X5 owner

Hello all.

First off, thanks for the wealth of knowledge as I have just found this forum. This is my first X5 and I will be picking it up from my local BMW dealership on Wednesday.

Could someone tell me if this car is equipped with Bluetooth, Navigation, and Reverse Cameras?

I believe it has Bluetooth due to having the Premium package, but I am unsure with the others. I assumed since it has iDrive, it has Navigation.

Here is a cached link to the site.

Does not have navigation. As for back-up camera, it doesn't look like it since from the rear i don't see the little lens next to the license plate. Also doesn't have park distance control.

you should call the dealership to verify.

Thanks for the response mavic.

The SUV is being transported from one dealership to my local BMW dealership since I was particular about this color combo.

This may be a dumb question, but is there a way to add it? Since it has BMW assist?

If you like to have navigation, park distance control and reversing camera on your X5, I'd recommend, you don't get this one and keep looking for one that has them already (or negotiate with the dealer to include these items retro-fitted as part of your purchase).

All these items you like to have are an expensive and involved retro-fit.

For instance, to retro-fit navigation to this X5, (People correct me if I’m wrong) I'm sure you'll need to replace the screen to the wide-screen (or is the photo in the ad just deceiving? As it looks smaller), and install the DVD player under the in-dash CD player for the Nav DVD.

For the park distance control, you'll need to replace both front and rear bumper with the ones with PD sensors.

Perhaps the reversing camera is the easiest to retro-fit, once the bigger screen is fitted.

Bluetooth wasn't mentioned in the ad and there is no photo of the steering wheel to accurately confirm, but as it's not mentioned, I doubt if it has it.

The X5 has sophisticated electronics... Some electronic items won’t work by simply retro-fitting them. Some will also require additional software reprogramming and/or update to advise the vehicle a particular function/option is fitted.

On the upside, this car seems to have some nice to have features, that were otherwise options.

Good luck.

Thank you so much for your response Hammer. I was under the assumption that the navigation display was the same as the non navigation display.

I've cancelled my order on the above X5, and continue my search.

Thank you!

OP- You should consider having the dealer add a CPO warranty, given the fact you are using a dealership.

Agree this one seemed somewhat option poor.

Yes, you could add nav and the full 'cic based' idrive to this one, but it would be $5-6k or thereabouts...and you'd always have a 'bastardized' car that the dealer would likely whinge about if you ever needed service

ard - thanks for the response.

The above X5 is, indeed, CPO'd.

It seems like the best action would be to find another X5 that will have all of my required features.

Thanks.

You should consider the 4.8i ... you'll like the power, but not the MPG's ...

Also, check out the online reference link above: Index of /pdf/e70. Look for the e70 ordering guide. Pick the codes you like/want and ask the selling dealer for a "built sheet" for the car.
