Last service visit before new vehicle warranty expires...

I'll be taking my 2008 3.0si in next week for it's last service before the warranty expires later this month. Anything I should have them check?

IMO, most dealers will NOT find warranty claims for you.

You need to come in with a stated complaint on the work order, and THEN they will evaluate and fix.

Your SA may sweet talk you, or you may believe that they really do that '125,000 point free inspection', but my experience has been different.

Well, unless there is no warranty- then they seem to suggest plenty.

Since I DIY, I'll inspect the car and hand them a punch list with every little issue listed: weeping gasket, hose feels soft, etc, etc.

ard - I worked at this dealership for a couple of years and am really good friends with everyone in the service department, including my service advisor and the tech who works on my X. So I'm not the "average customer." They will be doing a full check of my X.

I'm just looking for common issues that I may not have experienced, but could listen for, check for, feel for, etc.

Mine expires 8/22. A 3.0 as well. I had the head valve replaced for intermitent ticking noise. Im at 36k miles and last week they said my brakes are 11 and 12mm. Well above minimum tolerance for change.

Ah. Yes, that does make a BIG difference. I had a friend that was an SA for a while, helped immeasurably.

IMO, the most common issues will be leaks. Anything else is not really "inspectable"...so look for every possible leak or 'weeping seal' they can- engine, transmission, differential.... feel all the hoses, any feel soft or look 'ballooned'. Wheel bearings? Any new noises? Any suspension noises, rattles, feels looser?

I would think brakes and wipers - all the standard consumables. I would agree with one of the poster, if you aren't experience an "issue" they are not likely to do that work unless you complain. For exmaple, I don't know if they volunteerily deal with all the TSAs.

Since I seem to have gotten hit by all of the common ones, I will list mine so that you can inspect

1) - Poorly designed bumper. Look at the car from the back and if you see ripples in your bumper, chances are that some of the clips need to be replaced. Mine required a new bumper

2) - Cracked radiator - Think you'd know about this one by now

3) - Bad sensor module on the rear suspension - Would throw up an error code

4) - Water in the rear taillight housings - Common issue to have a leak in the seals

5) - NAV DVD drive - Mine works with old Nav disk, but throws up errors with new disks. Over $1k to replace since it's not covered under CPO. From reading up on this, seems to be a very common issue

Thanks for your list!

LOL Yes...I've had the cracked radiator already. They found it when I was in for an oil service a few months ago.

Luckily it doesn't have BMW nav, so I don't have to worry about those gremlins.

Have them check your wheel bearings. Mines coming up as well and I am pretty sure the drivers front wheel bearing is going out...
Any interior pieces peeling? On mine the covers around the buttons on the steering wheel bubbled and were replaced. Good luck.
