Canadian look for a US dealer that sells to Cdns
Just wondering if anyone knows of a dealer in the USA that will sell to me (a Canadian). I am looking for an x5 D with a lot of options ($75 K or so MSRP) and would like to do a factory order. Also looking for a good deal which is about $12K off of MSRP of $75 K or so. I know this is a long shot but just thought I would ask. If anyone has anything for me please e-mail me at talonrob at gmail dot com. Thanks, Rob. |

You've read up on this, right? Dealers can get in HUGE trouble if they do it's. In fact most dealers will ask you to sign a 'no export' document...
I'd talk to a broker, or a family member residing in a low tax state... |

Can't be done these days, I tried recently, even looked as far as Texas. Have to go through a broker or a family member.

The option of Nappa leather seats and a $10K lower price tag & I think the US maintenance program is more comprehensive. Thanks for the response guys. I sent out about 10 requests and so far they all said they can't sell to a Canadian. It looks like BMW really clamped down on the dealers selling outside of the USA. I guess I am back to the used car search. Rob. Last edited by Talonrob; 08-31-2012 at 01:36 PM. |

That's an urban legend originated few years ago when many X5 (and other luxury SUVs) where exported overseas and some indeed delayed sending titles to owners (we'll ignore the cases when untitled cars were shipped out). No one can dictate what you can do with your vehicle.

Dealers have you sign a no-export document if they suspect you are going to export it right away, just to protect themselves. You don't have to sign it. And they don't have to agree to sell a car to you.

My dealer had me sign a no export agreement when I took delivery of my X5. Notwithstnding the price differential between Canada and the US, they are still relatively cheap here compared to some markets.

I am a Canadian ex-pat living here in the states. I helped my dad import an Acura RDX a few years back. While investigating the whole process at the time, I recall reading that Canada required a latter from the dealer indicating it met some standard. At the time I recall seeing BMW was charging $500 for the letter. This was regardless if it was new or an older model.
