The CIC does not have a video output, so you'd need the appropriate interface. Once you have video coming out of the CIC, the RSE screen has an unused input, that will accept a composite signal. Unfortunately, you'd be doomed to listening to the DVD that's being played, which is why the people I spoke with in Germany suggested using an aftermarket DVD player, mounted in the glovebox, and connected to the CIC through their A/V input. That way, the RSE remains a seperate system, if you want it to be, or you could play the same DVD on both screens at the same time. When you want to, you can then change the CIC source and leave the RSE playing its DVD. The headphones would still work too.
There is an "enable RSE" in the BMW code but not an "enable RSE output" in the code, or at least I'm told there isn't. There is only an audio connection between the RSE and CIC. |

muddycharles, Pantera1,
I just follow your threads, I'm in the same situation trying to achieve the same result the 09 X5 with pre-LCI using the CCC instead of CIC. RSE for the rear, movie sounds can play with all speakers in AUX-REAR channel. Front has the backup camera can show the video feed. With this config, the Front does not have the DVD option, only the Nav with DVD slot, not sure if it can play DVD movie which I doubt. Is it way that I add option or code with additional channel for DVD movie? Quote:

Or just drive the damn vehicle and if someone wants to watch a movie, send their ass to the back, no need for that distraction while driving lol Just because it could be done after some work doesn't mean it should be done

Whoever is sitting front passenger just mashes the RSE remote until the video starts, then we switch the front aufio back when we're done.

The whole RSE system is Completely asinine IF you have little ones who cannot yet operate it on their own. Using the remote in the front seat is like a slap in the face, all these wierd buttons, knobs and dials, to control something you can't see because the screen cuts off when you turn it to the front! Few things ever frustrated me like using that system while on road trips with the kids.
Thankfully, they are old enough now to change DVDs and hit play on their own. They get stuck a little occasionally but usually get it working. My sanity has returned.

I had big plans for ours but quickly realized our kids would rather each watch their own iPad.
The video signal from the DVD changer to the front system is analog and you can easily tap into it. The rear is also analog and much easier as you just tap into the aux input. Simplest is then having car coded for Video In Motion. Then tap into the video from the changer and tap it into the rear system. Don't worry about the aspect ratio, the screens already take care of that and only display it black barred anyway. I was trying to do full HD in the back and just the digital audio into the front system... I found a 1080p screen on eBay for ~ $60 that was the perfect size to fit in the rear screen housing. Then I was going to setup a in-car video distribution system with a Raspberry Pi, a 2tb HD, an Apple remote, and Kodi. I got it all working but abandoned the project before install and ended uip selling the whole rear system to get it out of the way of the center console. *** You can also play DVD's from the single navigation drive in the dash. |
