Picked up a 07 X5 4.8i have a few Questions

Hello everyone, I traded in my 05 X5 E53 for a 07 X5 4.8i Sport with 72K and I have some questions:

is a CPO but the warranty expires on 1/16/13 So I have a appointment tomorrow at the dealer for:
- the shifter (takes a few try to put in reverse)
- it has some noise in the front driver side on bumps/path holes(possibly bushings)
-the driver rear shock is leaking oil( I think is not cover under CPO)

is there anything that you guys think I should ask them to check?
any frequent or known issues around this milage.

on a side note:
I pick it up last wednesday and over the weekend installed
-running boards
-Lux V3 Angel eyes

iPhone pictures

is loaded with options:
Premium Package
Sport Package
Technology Package
Premium HI-FI Sound
Cold Weather Package
Rear Climate Package
Active Steering
Heads-Up Display
Comfort Access
Panorama Moonroof
3rd Row Seat
Satellite Radio
BMW Assist w/Bluetooth

Have them make sure the rear inside tail lights don't leak,
I had my active stabilizer bar replaced,
Check the vacuum pump for leaking...
I had my bluetooth module, battery, DME, assorted modules, o2 sensors, gear selector replaced all under warranty.

I love the car but I guess I bought one with a few issues.

thanks for the response
as of now my vacuum pump has a small leak and the battery light comes on very often, the gear selector is the worst.

wish me luck, I have to drop it off tonight

No problem!
If the vacuum pump isn't covered you can do it really easy yourself. I didn't even remove the entire pump because it was the large oring that was leaking.

Why did you buy this vehicle with these issues? I hope you got an incredible deal. Or, like many of us, you weren't aware of such issues before purchasing? With that many miles, and a warranty that is basically non-existent, I would have shyed away from this example.

Not trying to be a bah-humbug, but I do have my reservations about this specific one. I also have a 2007 4.8i, but mine has 55k on it with CPO until August 2013. Even though I have "more" warranty left, I am still getting nervous and am considering trading for a new 50i.

Good luck, either way!

I bough the X knowing about the gear selector problem and if the CPO doesn't cover then the used car dealer is going to cover the bill.

The other little issues I found it after the fact.

Ask nicely and you should have the rear strut/shock covered without much resistance. Service Advisors don't make calls on that as much as the Service Manager does. Get to know the SM and the ASM as they can be your best friend or worst enemy.

Not sure if maintenance is covered but check the brakes, etc. Just a once over since they have your car up in the air they can sometimes throw these services in for free while it is being billed to warranty anyways.

Don't get too scared of your SAV/SUV. Treat it right and most of the time it will do the same. There are problem SAV/SUV's out there that no matter what you do it will just be a problem.

Also there are extended warranties out there if you belong to a credit union or a bank that can sell it that are actually pretty good. Route66Warranty Easy Street covers what manufacturers warranty will cover minus some smaller things. Major pieces are covered and the price is usually $1825-2250 for a 6 Year(start at the time of the warranty) 100K miles. No Deductible and you pay taxes on the parts and the fluids.

Good luck with the SAV/SUV and congrats.

You are welcome. Also check your headlights and taillights for stress fractures/creases in the plastics. I think it is stress and they think it is heat regardless it does happen so check those items out as well. Look at it from an angle and you should be able to see them. They look like tiny hairlines in your plastic. If you have them they will replace under warranty. Also your soft coat on the steering wheel control areas(black could be peeling off or aleady peeled) and the driver door window controls areas. These are painted to the color of the plastic underneath with a coating that make it soft/rubberized. They tend to peel. More often in the 2007/2008 but still happens even in the new models.

If you have Pano-Roof have them check the oil/mechanisms to make sure they are not dirty and running smoothly. Hear any wind noise?

Also seat bolster can sometimes collapse(getting in the out of the drivers side all the time) - they can replace these as well under warranty.

Always ask even if you think there is no way they will cover it. You will be surprised sometimes. They get paid either way so if they think they can get away with it with warranty they will. At least a good SA will try.
