New Owner of a 2011 X5 50 - some questions

Hello,

After much deliberation, I sold my 2006 X5 4.8is, and purchased a 2011 X5 50 with just 13,500 miles. It is very well optioned, and in mint condition , and met my mandatory requirements of black saphire / black interior, with the 20 inch staggered wheel option. I purchased it in Atlanta from a Land Rover dealership and had a very enjoyable ride home to NYC in my new ride. Just a few questions, and I apologize in advance if they are newb.

1) The original RFT tires with now almost 15K miles will be replaced. I want to go with a non RFT, and am thinking of the Continental DWS. I do need all season tires. ANy thoughts on this tire? THe MIchelin Latitude is more expensive, but I haven't seen anything saying they are better than the DWS. Appreciate your thoughts.

2) Since I am going with non RFT tires, I want to purchase a space saver spare. Two things, where can I purchase the whole kit (jack, tools, wheel / tire)? Also, the storage area under the cargo floor where the space saver will go, is carpetted. How is the space saver clamped down so that it doesn't move / rattle?

3) I got the keys, remotes, manuals with the X5. However, I would love to have the window sticker that came with the car when new. Is there some place that would have this if I provided my vin? I know the car was delivered new to its original owner in Atlanta.

4) On rough roads, there is a very slight rubbing noise coming from the hatch area. It really is not very noticeable, but is it a common problem that I can locate and put some felt on?

5) FM radio reception seems a bit weak. Is this a common issue?

6) Finally, I am willing to travel for excellent dealership service. ANy recommendations for the top service BMW dealership in the NYC, LI, NJ, CT area?

Many thanks. I love this X5 and appreciate all comments.

Bruce

I've had decent luck with Greenwich BMW. They are based out of Greenwich, CT. However, their service center (pretty big; service only) is located in Port Chester, NY. They give out loaners, as well. Richie Tavera is my service adviser, and I recommend him. A coworker/friend of mine also goes there with his 335i and his SA is Fabien (unsure of last name). Another friendly person there is Bernadette (Bernie).

They've always been professional and quick. Not too far of a drive from NYC area.

Small world. Richie is my SA as well. Overall, good service, but they're a large profit center, so I use a great indie and go there for CPO warranty work only. Under warranty, Richie got MANY pieces of my X5 replaced.

Can't help you out with spare questions as I keep RFTs on my X5 since I have third row

I wonder if we've seen each other there before...haha, funny how small the world truly can be.

Glad we could be of service, OP!

Suge, the 2011 50 is much faster and far more refined than my 2006 4.8is. Other than the engine, there may not be as much difference between your 2008 and the 2011. This is my third x5, I had a 2001 4.4, the 2006 4.8is, and now the 2011. Each has been a very dramatic improvement over the previous one. I just changed the run flat tires today to Conti DWS, and the ride is vastly improved. All in all, this is a wonderful vehicle.

I don't know how you could get the window sticker but it might want to use the BMW VIN Decoder and get a full list of all the options that your X5 has...

The transmission is 8sp and the iDrive is much better on the 2011.

I have had good experiences with Circle BMW in Eatontown, NJ. I went to them for my Dinan tune and found them to be good enough to travel from NYC for. I deal with Bryan Raiken. I really appreciate that I get honest answers from him. On two occasions, he has told me "I do not know, let me look into it." (and followed through.) The other thing, he writes the work order exactly as I describe it and then reviews it with me.
