White LED Angel Eyes Install w/Pics and Review (yes another one)

Disclaimer: I'm not affiliated nor am I paid by MTEC to write this.

After seeing a bunch of newer X5s pass by during my daily morning commute, I was quite envious that their angel eyes were white in color while my 2010 was a boring yellow color.

So after some extensive research between different brands, I have narrowed it down to Lux vs MTEC. Both are similar in price so it made it very tough. The deciding factor was the color of the LED. Marc from Lux posted a non-biased review on these two manufacturers on a different forum and noted that MTEC was 500 kelvin cooler than the Lux. I wanted a slightly bluer look so that's why I decided to go with the MTECs. Probably can't go wrong with either so its a personal preference in color.

I do believe that bulbs should be rated in Lumens and not just wattage. MTECH rated theirs at 909 lumens while a lot of other knock offs you find on ebay that advertise "20 Watt Crees" are actually measuring a lot lower lumens.

Install pics:

Side-by-side comparison between stock H8 halogen and the new LED bulb

Stock Angel Eyes before the install

Very simple plug-n-play setup. No permanent changes and takes 7 mins tops to do. The ballast and all the wires tucks inside original housing.

Picture showing how the outer angel eyes gets lit up from just one bulb.

Side-by-side comparison between stock and MTEC bulbs. Drastic change!

Still visible during daylight

I'm very happy with this setup

Like I mentioned before, Im not affiliated or sponsored by MTEC. I'm just very happy on how white and bright they turned out. Best mod I've done yet for relatively low amount of money.

Thanks for reading!

Yes, it looks good. Its a great alternative to LUX V3, but just as expensive.

I changed the DRL lights in my 2010 X5 35d, I don't know why but the wires on my cat were short, not like you picture sows, could not get the socket out of the enclosure enough to easily change the bulbs, it was a bear with my big hands, anyone else with same eexperience

Yeah mine were also short, i think just passenger side though. I was still able to inset the bulb and with 2 fingers manage to get the plug on there. Taking the plug out was easier with a flat head, lifting the tabs.

Thinking of doing this to my E53 but before I buy here's my question. This box looks like it contains 2 bulbs. Does this mean that the application is one bulb for the 2 rings on the drivers side and one bulb for the two rings on the passenger side? Has anyone done this install on an E53? Just checking to see if the wires will be long enough and the install is easy.

I may be wrong but I don't believe this install done by the OP is for the DRL.
This install is for the Angel Eyes. DRL install might be another thread.

Yes Quicksilver, it is one bulb per 2 rings. So one bulb per side on the E53. That's why it's so hard to get decent light distribution through both rings and one always looks dimmer.

Oh no, I don't need to be hearing that. I don't think I'll be spending
money without the proper results. Thanks for the heads up.

No problem. And the above is the exact reason I cut open my headlights and installed my own LED angel eyes. Only way to get a proper looking angel eye set on the E53's and pre-LCI E70's.
