Thanks for the write up. The jacking points make a difference. I had a difficult time to put the top in correctly. You have to feel the hole at the top and go in blind. When it is in just a little twist will lock it in.
Another thing to consider is re-use the keeper, the threaded nut, and the top housing. You will avoid the hassle of remove the old keeper and slide the new one in. It is so easy to break off. ALX5 |

I just wanted to add this video, I recently came upon on interwebz.
It will be edited into the original write up as something to research before starting the job. How to Replace the Rear Air Suspension Spring on a BMW X5 & X6 - YouTube |

I am planning on replacing the rear drivers side air spring today.
Due to location circumstances, I have limited tools. Is it okay if I only jack up the once side? Or is this going to be an issue? edit: Never mind, I will do the right thing and grab some axle stands and jack up both sides. edit 2: Only did one side ha!

So I was thinking you need to stands as you are releasing air from the system.
It would appear that the two bags are pumped separately if one stand worked. Cool. |

The old spring was already deflated for removal from the deterioration. Other than that, jacking up the car with a little scissor jack and getting my seized wheel off the hub took the majority of the time.
