Squeal at startup which goes away....

Idler pulley or water pump? Best diagnosis method? When I start the car in the AM it squeaks until I drive it a bit. Then it goes away. Mostly annoying, but it's on the list.....

My vote is idler pulley. Buy an automotive stethoscope and listen to each device to determine which is the culprit. It will be obvious.

I vote for an old belt becoming stiff. When the belt warms up and gets more flexible the noise goes away. I have had this before on two of my older cars and a new belt solved the problem.

I need to look at that belt for sure. Doing tranny pan/mecha sleeve and brake fluid any second now.....

I recently determined the source of my squeak by spraying WD40 on each part until the noise stopped. It was instantaneous but I reconfirmed the next morning. In the end I had two issues, the tensioner pulley and the rear bearing on the alternator.
