E70 Active Stabiliser service??

Hi, this is my first post so go easy, I've been reading the forum for sometime, some great info for our cars.

I have a 2007 E70 X5, 4.8L petrol V8, I was in my local BMW dealership for an MOT and the service adviser told me my car is coming upto a major service early next year.

He told me about the oil, airfilter, sparkplugs etc which I knew about then his computer came up with something I've never heard before - "Active stabiliser service" we had never heard of it and the computer quoted no price, so he went out back to talk to a technician, he came back and said "It is a pyrotechnic device fitted to your bonnet" I then joked "So my bonnet could blow up??!!" he said he would find out more and call me which he hasn't.

After looking on the web I think it is part of the dynamic drive or a bonnet airbag for pedestrians but no other info so does anybody know what it is?? what they do to service it? and roughly how much?

Thanks

I think they meant to say they wanted to service the active Front stabilizer bar/Dynamic Drive, probably a fluid service for the hydraulic unit. That's my two cents.

Rubbish.

Agreed it is the Adaptive Drive component frank listed.

To my knowledge there is no published "service" for this item- IMO this is a BMW dealer seeking to separate you from your $$$ (or pounds as the case may be...)

and if it is a "pyrotechnic device" it reminds me of the joke about the QC department in the fuse factory:

"That woulda been good"

"That woulda been good"

"That woulda been good"

"That woulda been good"

"That woulda been good"
