Does your X5 go to sleep ?
This may be a weird question, but does the E70 have a "sleep" mode or battery saving mode when the vehicle has not been started for a while ? I notice from time to time when I haven't started the car for 5 or more days, that it seems sluggish with the electronics when started, and twice the clock was off and the settings were set back to default...Either a sleep mode or a bad battery ?

Well, if the clock loses the time or you lose settings, your battery its on its way out.
There is a designated sleep mode on all modern BMWs to reduce draw on the battery. In fact, many vehicles drain their batteries because it doesn't go into sleep mode as it should after approx 15-20min. |

16 minutes nominal time and 35mA nominal current... can vary +- but not by much... if the clock reset, then the battery is not holding up its end of the bargain...
good battery can easily go in alarmed state for 2 weeks and fire up the car with no hesitation... some specimen can go for a month... |

My battery is at least 2 years old (purchased the vehicle new in October 2011). Went to Sweden on business on November 1st, came back last week. Vehicle was not started in 17 days. Started with absolutely no problem.
