E70 rear suspension flat - Sensor/Air Bag ???
Started it up, moved it a few feet, no fault code, the suspension bag didn't inflate, I was trying to hear the compressor or bag filling up but couldn't really tell... So left it for a few days, then last night I pulled out the fuse/relay...popped it back in, started it up and got the EDC warning...So I then drove it about 50 feet, the suspension started to fill up, and it was back to normal. Shut if off, waiting a few min, started back up and no EDC warning...Checked it this morning and the rear doesn't appear to have deflated...So Im stumped at this point... Does it sound like a Relay problem, maybe something reset when taking out the relay ? or maybe a pin hole in the suspension air bag and it deflated over a few days, ? I'd prefer to self diagnose and avoid BMW, then I can shop the parts and "maybe" DIY. any help is greatly appreciated |

Thanks it does help a little, but the weird thing with mine is that the car was in the driveway for at least 4 days parked, then it went flat...Last time I drove or even recently I haven't hit any large holes, I don't drive it hard, nothing out of the unusual. It was only one side on the rear that went down...very odd

My thinking is your bag is raptured in place where depending on driving, the crack is exposed or not.
Here is what I did: http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...nt-x5-e70.html |

As per gregg3gs's post, this is one of the simplest repairs you can do on your X5. A jack ( and jackstands) and a couple of hand tools is all you need.

Thanks for the info guys...I haven't done any repairs to the car yet...I've only driven it a few times, each time I drive it the bladder inflates, and is good for a few days, then deflates...so just doing a few tests in the meantime.
BUT...I just got a "battery low" warning message today...I've noticed around the same time the car first sagged that the battery appeared to be acting up ( Clock would reset and radio stations gone if the car wasn't started for a few days )... Could a low battery cause the Air suspension to deflate ? or not "keep it up" so to speak ? |

Interesting observation.... Dont know, I could ome up with a rationale by which a failing battery (ie unable to hold a deep long charge) could allow certain modules to go into an odd mode and lead to leakage. How old is the battery? If you read up on this, you will see that they can fail in strange ways. |

Battery is as old as the X5, so 5 years now...without a doubt it has to be changed, just wondering if that can cause the suspension issue ?

Repleace the battery and see if the suspension issue is addressed! Report back as that will be a useful tidbit.
FYI: See Link below for more info on the air system. Cannot say what might happen with the air solenoids if a module starts tweaking out due to low voltages... http://www.bmwmotorsports.org/pdf/e7...%20Systems.pdf |
