Service history

Is there a way I can find out exactly what has been done to my X5 over the years by BMW?
I am 2nd owner and just would like to know what has been changed or not, this way I know what to expect to fail in the future..

You can ask your dealer, they have access to the BMW system with a record of whatever has been done and reported in that BMW system (warranty and otherwise). That won't show services done by an independent garage, but it is the most complete list.

Due to consumer privacy rules, dealers will generally tell you that you can't get the above. It violates the privacy of the previous owner. However, if you are friendly with a service advisor you can sometimes get a summary of what was done.

hmm, yea that wont work for me as i bought the car with aftermarket policy 3 year 45k miles, but I think the history of the car should remain the cars history not the individual.
CarFax doesn't tell you much and if you dont have some type of warranty from BMW, I'm sure they wouldn't help.

I just thought that maybe some other way to find out the work history would be tied to the trucks VIN..

Thanks for the response.

Actually, no.

The car is not a person. The car is an object. The service records are a business record of a transaction between BMW and the prior owner. It is NOT a transaction between BMW and the car.

Argue all you want, this is how BMW interprets it.

Now, if you had a document, signed by all prior owners acknowledging the ownership of these transatuon/business records follow the car title, then maybe you could argue it.

It is, however, much easier to schmooze a BMW service advisor.
