Sidewall damage on the tire

Hit a curb last night and took a chuck of sidewall from front brand new tire (275/40/20). Based on pic attached would you change the tire or keep it for now ? Thank you for the feedback.

Holy shmoly, Serge!!! how fast were you going???

well, based on the pic, it is obvious that some material is removed from the sidewall, making that spot thinner than the rest of the tire... as a result, if you are driving on pothole filled streets of NYC, or driving somewhat spirited, or taking turns on the ramps off a highway, you will be putting additional stress on the sidewall, and given the fact that your tires are a low profile (would matter even on regular tires!!) the extra stress might pop the tire in that area...

I would say, you should replace the tire, even though it is not an immediate necessity - you can drive a some time knowing to take it easy, until you can replace it...

no tire warranty/insurance??

Other than wandering very, very 'local', at low NYC street speeds, I would replace the tire, and have rim checked too...

Surprised the rim/tire bead isn't leaking.

Hard to see how deep the cut is...looks like that sidewall where it meets the rim has a thickened area?? How deep is the cut?

Was it a scrape, that caused a shearing action that cut the part handing over? Or was it an impact?

Im more concerned with the $$wheel. Id also like to see that wheel on a rear axle (but with stagger that isnt happening...)

Keep in mind that the more you drive on these the greater the mismatch when (if) you do replace this one.
