BM MirrorTap for V1/RL/MAX
Below is the link of the BM mirror tap that I am told will work in my 2012 X5. So I was wondering if someone who has this configuration already in place would share some photos and/instructions on how to do the installation. When thinking of my skills for this project, think about a mile below a novice. BMW Radar Detector Power Cord I have a ProClip vent mount for my iP5S, but I am thinking about this look eventually: http://escortradarforum.com/forums/s...ad.php?t=10320

a mile below novice - that alone makes me think that you need to talk to a professional.
from the first link i see that they sell an RJ-11 connector ($0.05 a piece) with two pins (20 pins for $1.00) and a 1 foot long wire in between for $30!!! get a professional and tap for power into sunroof or garage opener circuitry, this way you will not burden the mirror circuits with radar draw...

Very good advice. Thank you.
I am presently in Bethlehem and this kind of input will inform my order and then orient me for how to direct a professional installer once I am back in the USA.

I know that I can hardwire the V1 but I have wanted a power source that would allow me to alternate between the V1 and RL in the BM. If I go for these other power sources that you suggest, am I still better off with the BM mirror tap kit or with their hardwire kit?

power source is a power source - in a car it is a 12VDC. the circuit that you tap to to get the power can be low amperage and can't sustain additional draw, or, on the other hand, can handle it. the power can be constant on, switched on with ignition, or fed via K72 relay (this is one that goes to sleep 16 minutes after last activity).
if you want to feed that power to different detectors, you need to figure out the connectors, the V1 is using an RJ-11 connector, regular 4-wire telephone plug. i do not know what the other one is using, and if the other one is using the same connector, if the pinout is still the same... if the connector and pinout are the same, then you are all set, otherwise, you need to have two connectors, one for each detector... i suggest not using the mirror circuitry solely for the reason of not overloading the mirror power source - since there are many other options in that area of the car.

I made a quick stop at the shop that I trust and they said better to go with the BM hardwire tap than the mirror tap which fits with your advice.
