CPO Ended 8/28/14. My SA Hooked Me Up.

Took it in 3 weeks ago to see if anything can get covered by CPO before it ended. My SA who is really good had his tech really do a deep inspection. Work done:

1) Upper Oil Pan Leak (engine has to be lowered) - 14 hours labor - est cost $4K
2) Crank Case Coolant Pipe Leak - 45 hours labor (I think I wrote this down right) - est cost $7K
3) A/C System - New Evaporator (pressure check; tech checked temp in center vents at 60 degrees--driver vent blowing 60 but passenger vent was 78) - 17 hours labor - $4K cost
4) Got front brakes done under my Extended Maintenance which also was expiring along with putting a glaze on rears. FYI I had the fronts done twice and the rears once during Extended Maintenance

And, I did take care of my SA got him a gift card for a high-end steak place here. Probably not enough value to him as he was to me ha.

Now that's what I call great service from your Service Advisor! Good for you in getting all that work completed under warranty.

With that said, more than anything this post just scares the heck out of me. How do people afford to properly maintain these vehicles out of warranty?!

You do it yourself. When I first bought my x5 I didn't know much and spent about $2500 at an Indy and $700 was parts the rest was labor

If your X needed the same repairs BGM mentions in the above post, you'd have done all that yourself? Drop the engine, 76 hours of labor (that # based on a BMW certified tech.)...?

I get the DIY route for some repairs, and of course labor is always much higher than parts when paying someone to do the work, but I'm curious how many people here could pull off doing their own work when it comes to the bigger (more expensive) repairs, such as those BGM had done.

Yeah this was no DIY. For the evaporator the tech had to remove the dash to get to it.

what is your mileage at now? Do you think those first 3 issues are a result of actual usage or just time passed by?

I have only have 59K (bought it as a 2 year lease return with only 15K miles on it from Beverly Hills BMW in L.A.) So, I would think it's just time passed. And, none of the leaks were something I noticed or pointed out nor don't know if they ever would have "required" repair down the road.

Score. Nice to hear of a good relationship with an SA. Kudos for cultivating that.

I know you are not one to look a gift horse in the mouth, but it seems they "found" the common issues- all at the same visit. Hmmmm

Nice! Glad you got all that fixed...I recently purchased an 08 w/52K miles in 1/2014 and CPO until 8/1/2014 and had many things fixed as well but all at different times which included: rear air bags, nav control unit, fuel tank vent valve (carbon canister), evaporator and expansion tank have been done w/in this short time of ownership. Sometimes I feel like I should of gotten a newer one w/a longer warranty but I may not keep this long.

I am getting tired of all the money I am putting into my X5 and looking at your list is scary. I had to fix the issue with VANOS solenoids/Cam Ledges, Leaking Valve Cover Gasket (had to get new Valve Cover), Failed Water Pump and now I am getting P0015 fault code. I have barely 60K miles on the car and have kept it well.

I think I will be done with this car if the latest fix turns out to be a big expense.
