Updating Modules after Gear Shift Lever install

I have to replace my gear selector lever, and I have been advised that there will have to be an update/install of the program module.

I was told, it is possible that we may run into issues if other modules are not up to date.

From my understanding they cannot update the gear selector module until/unless all other modules are up to date. Which can take hours.

Can someone shed some light on this information for me?

Does it sound about right?

Mine was last updated Jan 27th 2010 according to dealership.

Thanks,

IF you go through the dealer, that is true the will bring all the modules in the car up to the current version, if you go through an indy, they can flash the module with winkfp independently.

hmm, this is what the indy ("bmw specialist") told me.

The owner is an X dealership tech.

So, if I tell him this will he just BS me?

Is there somewhere I can find what all has been updated in the e70 since 2010, so I know what i'm in for?

No, you have to understand the dealership is just following BMW procedures. They aren't going to deviate. The indy coder can do things a little differently.

Well I have just been informed by this indy, that:

Quote:
we have the same software as the dealer and it does not allow you to perform the update independently. It has to update the rest of the vehicle before it updates the part we replaced.
At this point, even if they are BSing me, it would be marginal cost savings to have the car towed to another indy to save the potential ~$200 in additional programming.
