Help with Rear brake replacement!

I pulled off my rear brakes to replace the rotors and pads, when putting the calipers back on using the 7MM bolts I notice some play or movement in the caliper, it does not seem right, I tried to tighten the bolts more and one striped!!! what in the hell just happened??? Is there supposed to be some play in the caliper before the piston is pushed back out???

Yes, there is supposed to be some movement.

The caliper has one fixed pad and one floating pad. This design requires the entire caliper to float, compensating for wear on the fixed pad. It is on the two socket head screws, one of which you stripped, that the caliper floats.

If you were using a torque wrench, as directed, how were you able to strip the fastener?

The repair is simple. Remove the caliper hanger and repair or replace it as required.

Ciao,
Dick

This confused me at first as well. I've found that the play will stop once you put the retaining clip back on. The applies to both the front and rear brakes.
