I'd go for Michelin Diamaris which are OEM spec on the e53 4.8is.

You will get a degree of tram-lining with wide tyres (ie. your 20" rims) but a good alignment and ensuring all your bushes are healthy should eliminate that.
Diamari's are very soft compound and low treadwear rating so not a good option for comfort. If the OP was wanting comfort, then the Michelin Lattitudes are a much better option.

I have very, very rarely head people complain of Michelin Run Flats. Ive seen a few, but not many- to my recollection.

Most of the complaints are duelers, and other tires. BMW shipped multiple different tire models from the factory...just Becuase yours came with one set of tires does NOT mean everyone got the same. Us diesel buyers got the better Michelins.

my 2 cents.
Mine came with Michelin Latitude Tour HP and I don't like them at all.
Thinking of replacing them to Continental non run-flats DWS or LX20.
Also mine is gas x35i Canadian model - somewhat different from US models and no TPMs, only FTM.

Side note: what a stupid idea of FTM with run-flats in my non-professional 100% personal opinion.

I also recommend Toyo Proxes ST IIs, for 20" Staggered wheels.
Good price ! Great ride, good handling and look great.

Proxes are indeed a very nice and rather inexpensive option (speaking from 40K+ miles experience), but for whatever reason they are loud - no, LOUD! - in 35...40 MPH range. If OP drives a lot on local/city roads, I wouldn't recommend them.

I have vredersteins staggered 20s, I like them but they all start off awesome and get hard and loud over time.

IF you really hate it you should just get a different ride.

Since 1/2 new. Feels too hard. Somewhat different from other cars/trucks I've driven including other BMWs with non run-flats. Maybe it is the X5 itself, but want to try non run-flats next time.
Also different cars, not apple to apple comparison, but I almost made 100,000km with my previous M-class with non run-flats. This Michelin has 47,000km and almost done.

It's a known fact that run flats do wear a lot quicker and are prone to tram lining as they wear. The latest crop are supposedly well improved over previous gen but it'll be a good few years before I even think about finding out if all that's true because I switched to conventional hoops (Hankook, as used on the new Kia Sorento here in South Africa) and with 15000km they have yet to show signs of wear... Hella comfortable too although a lot of that has to do with the fact I'm running 18's.
Clearly run flat technology has major benefits but c'mon, it's a flat tyre not intricate circuitry. We can all change a tyre. One day when run flat tyres last as long, are just as comfortable, then I'll gladly spend more for the convenience. Until then however you can consider me one of the overwhelming majority who's dissatisfaction echoes what was concluded by J.D Powers & Associates.
Not to mention the successful Class actions filed against manufacturers who's customers were "unhappy" with run flats fitted to their vehicles.
Sorry, it's Friday...I'll relax now. Have a great weekend guys...and why not get your X some new tyres for Valentine's! :p

You do realize Michelin Lattitude are a non-RFT ? And also one of the hardest compounds in the 20s so should be a comfort tire.

Do tell.

Some tires do, some runflats will, but it is not a "fact" that "all" runflats suffer this.

There are just so many nonsense 'facts' about tires.

Here is one 'fact'...most people are clueless as to what their specific tire alignment is, and fail to understand their alignment is a major factor in tire life, tire wear and handling...yet will blithely compare one tire to the next to the next, and never worry about alignments.

And I am talking about tire alignment numbers WITHIN the range BMW says are good!

If folks have tried tire A in a runflat and tire A in a non-runflat, then THAT is good feedback on the impact of the runflat feature on that model tire. But comparing one tire with a RF feature (especially the low bidder on OE tires) to the universe of every other runflats is not a valid comparison.

IMO
