Look at ebay, car-part.com, etc. Even the most expensive junkyard will be way cheaper than that.

Man that sucks.... the same thing happened to me earlier, "last year".
Let me collect some data. I spent about 3K on the entire repair, with oem parts an indy shop. Last edited by gregg3gs; 02-21-2015 at 10:12 PM. |

...ok I'm back (as if everyone was waiting)...
Here is the link to what happened to my X5: http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...xel-today.html I my opinion, and I am not a mechanic or a dealer, you should only get the replacement part from the dealer. You should not get it from the yard. Next, I do not know how badly damaged is the diff, but in my case the internal gears broke and the housing popped. The drive axles were in good condition. Finally; the diff was advertised at the dealer at $2,500.00 (US). I purchased my for $1,800.00 US. In Atlanta there is a local dealer that sales parts over the web and at lower cost, therefore I was able to have my mechanic purchase them there and have them shipped to his shop. During my looking around, another bmw dealer offered to match the price of the online bmw parts dealer. Go to: BMW Parts - Shop BMW OEM Parts Online at BMW of South Atlanta and see if you can locate what you need, and if you can get a locally dealer to match the price. All in all, I spent about $2,500.00 on the entire job (parts and labor). Good luck. |
