Yes.
From what I am hearing, F15 X5 diesel will use the same engine as the 5-series diesel being introduced in Summer this year.

BMW is coming with at least 2 different diesel engines this year; 28d and 35d.
28d for 3-series and 35d for 5-series, X5 and 7series.

35d as new/different compared to current 35d ?

Any word on transmission on new X5d ? - 6 or 8 speed? Any details on gear ratio and final drive would be appreciated.

Thx

8-speed...Acceleration is supposed to be better than current 35d.

I can't complain about from-the-start acceleration on the current 6-speeder, but I think it could definitely benefit from an additional gear on high speeds to further improve highway MPG.

I wish I could agree with you, but I and many many others don't as our cars suffer from a serious lag at take off (turbo, tranny, software... who knows). I truly hope the new engine will not have this issue!

The lag is also in 35d... Punch the accelerator all the way and nothing happes for half a second...
P.S. An additional gear would help for highway. RPMs too high for a diesel at highway speeds (although it helps passing).

Yes I agree lag is there, but once lag plays out, the torque kicks-in and acceleration is quite good. Lag impacts 0-60 overall time, but does not impact acceleration

BTW, lag will be there on just about any turbo engine, due to having to create return loop with exhaust gases. So if new 35d is also ....-turbo, it will likely to have lag as well.

The engine on my wife's F30 335 also has lag - shorter, but it is there nevertheless. And with 8-speed transmission, the perception that acceleration is much worse than it used to be on E90.
