Lot of new tech from LCI 7er and new 3er as part of Efficient Technology plus some first time new tech in BMW. X5 is above 3er so if its in 3er you can expect in X5. Weight saving is big in new X5, and the technology used to achieve that. Park Assistant, Contactless tailgate opening, new surround view, traffic sign recognition, Adaptive LED headlights, night vision, etc.etc....... |

Alot more chrome - obviously to compete with current ML, which is a bit bling, suit some not others.
Pics are still photoshop(or touched up - see schrome around windows ), & car looks quite weak and submissive - NOT what X5's should be. That said I'll wait till true life pics are released/spyd. Will prob be better in real life when compared in scale to another model. |

That rendering looks highly photoshopped. Style 177 wheels from an E53, door cut lines are inconsistent, lighting on the wheels and front air inlets is all wrong... It may be close to the real thing but I'll wait to see an actual photo before making a judgement

I wish that they'd do something about the fog lights, which have been too close together since LCI. Either move them further apart, as on the X3 and X1, or put them in the lower intakes like most of the sedans. LED fogs in a strip, like the 6 series, would also be nice looking.

Looks like hell. Auto mags rendering in crayon these days?
Real thing will hopefully preserve the proportions of the previous generations, which are far better than its siblings and rivals. Let's also hope we'll see a step up in build quality, interior materials, and reliability.

My take
Firstly, thanks to LeMans for the photos.
Front looks better than feared. I am also partial to chrome kidney grills so that may be influencing my view. Back worse than feared. The back looks so odd. Like there is an overhang (or rear spoiler) on roofline, or maybe the back is "sticking out it's butt." And is that black plastic along the bottom of the back of the car normal? I have the m-sport so I can't remember if other X5s have all that black plastic molding along the bottom (where the tailpipes are). What's with the silver strips along the side of the car? Are those running boards? It actually looks shorter than the e70. All previous thinking was that it would be up to 4" longer. Are my eyes playing tricks? Or perhaps it is same size/shorter to make room for x7. If the tailpipes are correct than this is a 50i and it looks pretty tame overall for a 50i. Excited for the technology that always accompanies a new model (LTE, new iDrive, Full-Color HUD, etc) but not too stoked with the look. Hoping M-Sport will help. Any thoughts on M-Sport launch timeline? Thanks again to LeMans for all the info and hard work, and to PalBay for the photos (if he/she is lurking). |

Hopefully it grows on me and this is not the final outcome. Looks like it's gone the way of the Sante Fe styling cues.....just like the Peppers!
