I have a question about the 10 AHr LITHIUM battery under the hood (2019 X5 40i). I understand it is in parallel with the AGM battery that is in the trunk. Dealer says it to needs to be replaced (and also said CODING required which I believe is inaccurate because I'd replace original with identical new one) but I believe the service tech doesn't know the difference between CODING and REGISTRATION.
I will replace with genuine BMW battery with same battery specs as the original.
BMW Service Action SI B61 03 19 makes reference to the lithium battery and states "Replace 10 Ah Lithium Ion battery as per Repair Instructions RA6121004 “Replacing 12-V dual storage
system- including registering battery change-“
So I've concluded that it DOES need to be REGISTERED. Do the experts here believe that REGISTRATION is to strictly document the battery replacement or is the charging profile for the lithium battery impacted, even though connected in parallel with the main battery.
Anyone know where I can find a copy of of BMW Repair Instructions RA6121004? THANK YOU.
