After Market Sound System Upgrade for X6

Anyone upgraded their sound system? Understand that the head unit will be a bit tricky since it is tightly couple with the car electronics. What about adding amps, ripping out the speakers, dsps, cross-overs and subwoofers? I am trying to improve the sound quality without the need to cut door panels or create holes in floor mat. Not sure anyone manage to find aftermarket stuff that can be added easily.

additional speakers under seats
What speakers are adding under front seats? I have ripped out the stock speakers (tweeters and speakers in doors). Replaced them with Focal KRS3. Fired them with audison 4-channel amp via a JBL MX-8 SP. Sounded alot better. But since it is configured in 2-way only, the bass and mid is not very coherent. I intend to add another 2-way amp and rip out the front seat stock speakers. Not sure what speakers will fit well in there. Will need at least a decent amp to fire the midbass too. If you are intending to get a set..go for a 3-way.

I'm doing the same upgrade, Focal speakers, keeping the standard bass speakers under the seats for now but might be upgrading them for the Earthquake Sw-8 woofers. I'm using Jbl Ms-8 with JL XD 400/4 and 600/1 amp. The sub I'm going to be using is a Jl audio 12W3. Not sure what's it's going to sound like but I'll keep you guys up to date when I pick up the car.

As I recall the base UK spec X's are different from the US spec... I recall some years ago when upgrading the stereo on my 53 that you guys over the pond got the better stereo option as standard not the DSP though etc .. not sure on the 70 I had as I got the best OEM system I could as an option.. however the 71 was bought off the dealers showroom floor... great deal but missing the stereo upgrade option !!

The UK X basic has a one way setup....

I upgraded mine to 3 way... Amp, 10inch subs under seat (watch out for the sound transferrance through the void.. so allow for sound deadening and creating new plinths etc) I also fitted tweeters and upgraded speakers to the doors...

Overall I am very pleased.. though I might go with a bit 10 to get the timing sorted on the speaker set up... as I do like my bass !! However its not needed unless you are into the same sort of music as me.. and even then only if you are fussy

I just got my Earthquake Sw-8 too. Will installed them this week. Fired up from an Audison SR2 amp (85watts/ch) and hopefully that will be enough to drive the speakers in the seats.

Also, I only have an aux-out in my center storage area between the front seats. Using the iphone4 connection via aux-out (headphone jet) is not doing justice to the system. I am looking at the IBM Y-cable option which will allow the usb connection to the iphone4 while retaining the aux-out link with the x6. Not sure anyone seen an improvement with that option.
