Thank you sooo much for that information, very clear and simple. I don't think I would want the snap in adapter.. so the only thing I think I need is the TCU and the BT antenna, correct. One more question do I need to have the dealership do any type of programming? I will call Cravier, Pacific, and Circle BMW for the best price on the TCU.. Look like this will be my coming month project.. thx again peter.. |

Supremely frustrated!!!
SF BMW simply cannot get either the Voice Recognition or the Eject Box / Snap in adapter to work with my 8/04 build 2004. Can someone please confirm that they have installed the -056 combo BT/Assist TCU, and have VR working without the additional VR kit, preferably in a "late build" 2004. Many thanks in advance. p.s. could this be a simple coding issue? any help appreciated! |

mfrymier,
From your post you don't say if the system is working (e.g: capable of making a call), but I assume so, since your saying your problem is with the VR and the eject box. Please verify that you can pair your cell phone and make a call? Regarding the VR. The -114 and 056 TCU have VR in the TCU but as I posted earlier in this thread to you, the VR is a seperate phone book, the VR has nothing to do with your cell phone and the phonebook that gets uploaded to the TCU... Per the earlier message to you in this thread. The Voice recognition in the module works great, just remember that the cars VR has a seperate phone book from your cell phones, You have to program it under speak and spell to load the names. Hit the talking head till it beeps, then say, "help" the VR prompts you for a name and then number, at the end of the number you can say "save" and your done. You can also voice dial a number, again hit the head and wait, it will read you a list of commands you can give it. Regarding the eject box etc, you don't say what the problem with it is?? I've explained the issues I encountered, within this thread, I have a 3-04 X5. Whats wrong with the eject box??? There is a compatability issue with the eject box antenna cable to TCU connector which is explained in this thread, and other BT threads indicated that some eject boxes need to have the power wires swapped in the connector to charge the phone. Again, whats the problem with the eject box? |

Here's the deal:
My -056 TCU works, in that I can operate in "hands free" mode, dial from my phonebook using my steering wheel controls, etc. Assist is also working -- this is the good news. The problem with the VR is that I never get the "beep" when I hold down the button on the steering wheel. I understand your comment about it being separate from the VR on the phone (which, surprisingly, works through the hands free system if I push the VR button on my Motorola 815). In short, I can't even get to the "help" menu. My dealership has been no help (any reccomendations on a BT savvy dealer in the SFBay Area would be appreciated). On the eject box, you're right -- I just need to get a good aftermarket guy to switch the pins, and splice the antenna. I'm confident that will work, and thanks Peter and others for your help on that. |

mfrymier,
I'm at a loss on the VR / beep issue. I'm 90% sure that i recall the head "beeping" prior to the coding as i definitely recall being pissed that i did'nt know about the VR seperate phonebook ahead of time because I could heve loaded the names. Check out this TSB, if you havent seen it, print it and bring it to your dealer. this is a "how to" on programing. My dealer in RI was screwed the first time aroung untill he produced this on the second coding trip HTML Code:

BMW Assist Retrofit to 2004 Solved!
Guys,
I know this has been around a while but no-one seems to have a definitive answer posted so I thought I would clarify things. There are actually two 'eject box wiring compatibility issues'. The first is that the combined assist/BT module (which is designated option SA633 by BMW) is designed to operate with Eject Box #84-21-6-946-063. SA644, which is the standard BT telephone without assist, is designed to operate with Eject Box 84-21-6-933-415. The eject boxes are physically the same - however the wiring is different. Photos of this eject box - as I installed in my X5 - are below. It is possible to covert from one eject box to the other - to do this you need to follow the wiring diagrams for each and work out the different pins for each system. The only difference between the two eject boxes is that the brown/white/red & green wires goes to different pins on the same plug. The second 'eject box wiring compatibility issues' is what is alluded to in the post above which is the fact that the antenna lead from the eject box in an '04 is male and so is the corresponding connection on the TCU. The cable shown above (84 32 0 138 217 which is a standard BT cable with a white Fakra connector at one end and a black/purple connector at the other) will NOT solve this problem without modification. The black/purple fakra female connector will plug into the cable to the eject box but the white connector will not match the TCU without modification. The correct coloured Fakra connector to plug into the TCU would be WINE RED. The difference is the slots are at different positions. To modify the white connector REMOVE IT FROM THE CABLE using a small jewellers screw driver and use a utility knife to cut a slot in the correct position! Then place the connector back onto the cable and connect to the TCU. Photos are below BUT NOTE I CUT THE SLOT ON THE WRONG SIDE SO HAD TO RECUT ON THE OTHER SIDE! The cable from the bumper antenna will simply plug into the TCU! I hope this helps! PICS ATTACHED IN THREAD: http://www.xoutpost.com/bluetooth/141...tml#post510268 |
