I could use some help with a carplay MMI box

The company emailed me back and told me what place to connect the mic to, but the still failed to answer my question about the switch settings. I emailed them again. This will make 8 times I have asked specificity about getting proper switch settings. Their response about possibly having a bad LVDS cable was to find someone to repair it or find another one to purchase. So far the chances of getting Amazon involved and sending this unit back is becoming more and more likely. They are definitely making an effort to help though.

I forgot to mention I was only able to gain about 2 inches in cable from the idrive. The provided cable is not long enough to reach and location the CarPlay box could be mounted.

I found settings to make the factory cam work.

Does anyone know how to get better audio quality from the phone? Before using Bluetooth the audio sounded really good. Now it sounds really bad. Starts distorting even at low volume. I tried adjusting the built in EQ, but still sound quality is half of what it was before.

Also I know I could cut the harness and splice some wires in to make it long enough, but since I don’t know yet if I am keeping the unit I was trying to avoid cutting.

Mic is working now. Just mostly dealing with poor audio quality. And a harness that is too short.

So after waiting all weekend for a answer to what switch settings are used for my car, I got back the reply of

“yes you can set them for the unit.”

This makes the 8th time I asked for the same information and sadly this is the closest I got to an answer.

Update.

I have it working. Never got the switch settings from Lexxson. Through trial and error I got it to work.

The next issue I faced was a cable that was too short to reach from my center console Idrive controller and be able to mount the box anywhere. While my 13 year old son said having the box on the floor board with all the wires looked cool, I didn't agree. I contacted Lexxon and they suggested I find someone to fix it or buy another harness online. I could not find a harness, so I cut off both 4 pin connectors and extended them about 12 inches. This lead to a whole new problem. I had 4 wires, orange with purple stripe, orange with brown stripe, orange with black stripe, and orange with green stripe. I failed to take pictures before cutting the wires, and they factory harness had 2 10 pin connectors and another 2 pin connector that wasn't needed for my car. I thought just hooking the matching wire colors to each other would work. it did not. I figured at least on set must get shorted together, however no matter what combination I tried I got electrical errors in the car. I then started looking for another MMI box to purchase that used the same harness I have. this way I could verify how it was wired. I found one and ordered it. When it came in, it was not the unit pictured or described from the seller, and it uses the quad lock connector behind the radio. the one I have does not use this style. So that harness was no help. I now have to send that unit back. I debated about keeping it if I could not figure mine out. I checked all my splices and hooked the harness up again. I noticed it kind of works, there was a lot of lag between the controller and the screen. Some times I had to turn my idrive controller 6 or 7 clicks to get it to move one on the screen. I found this interesting. Other times it would not move on screen, then jump ahead like it was lagging. I examined my harness closer and noticed the orange wires are twisted pairs. the extension I added they were straight. I cut off the splices and made mine twisted pairs and then put a new splice in. It worked flawlessly. I installed everything and put the car back together. it works with no issues. phone connects within 5 seconds of getting in and starting the car. phone calls work everything seems to work. I have to adjust the EQ as the sound through carplay is not as good as other methods. it definably sounds like it can be fixed through the EQ though. I played with it for about 5 mins and made a huge improvement, but still needs more work. All in all a huge pain, mostly due to the company I chose to go with. I am not saying I would not recommend them, just know that you will get no help from them and no instructions. and you may have a harness that will not be long enough for your car. If you are willing to figure it out, my unit cost around $230. I might have paid more if I knew I would go through this. Hopefully though this post will help someone if they get the same unit. I can not tell you what each switch setting does, but I posted the correct settings for my X5. As far as I can tell I am the only one who has bought one of the Lexxson units and posted about it online. Now that it is working, I really love it, and really like they way they did the harness vs most of the others I have seen. If you get one and need help i will do my best to help. Good luck

So far it is all working fine for the most part. If I am not cranking the stereo, I leave it on aux. if I really want to turn it up, I switch to audio over Bluetooth with CarPlay. I get the controls on CarPlay, but the audio bypasses it so it sounds better.

Other things I have done to the car are installed remote start. I am using the factory remote, and a drone mobile unit. It works great.

The other mod I have done (came before the CarPlay) was I installed three eight inch image dynamics subwoofers. It all fits under the rear cargo area and looks stock.
